Assassin's Creed: Valhalla

Of Blood and Gods

By

This quest begins immediately after On Borrowed Time. With Hemming Jarl dead, Eivor is haunted by his last request; to council wisely on who should become the new Jarl between Vili and Trygve. Eivor looks to the seer for guidance.

Speak with the Seer and Meditate on Sleeping Jotun

You’ll find the seer in the northernmost part of Hemthorpe, within the stave church on the hill. Speak with her and then follow her outside. When you reach an area with a few tents you’ll have to speak with her again. Cryptic messages will follow, and she’ll ask you to meditate at the summit of the nearby mountain. You’re not shown exactly where this is, but to make things easier you can simply fast travel to The Sleeping Jotun synchronization point. If you haven’t been there before, you’ll need to climb it first. Once you’re at the summit Eivor will note it with a brief dialogue. Meditate here to begin a cutscene.

(1 of 5) The location of the Seer of Hemthorpe.

Boss Fight: Draugr Hemming

During the cutscene induced by the meditation, you’ll meet Hemming Jarl. A dialogue will follow, after which you’ll need to fight him in Draugr form. The dynamics of this fight are fairly simple, in that Draugr Hemming doesn’t have too many special attacks. His only unblockable and unparryable attack is a dive attack, similar to Eivor’s Dive of the Valkyries. You will need to dodge or roll out of the way of this in order to avoid it, so look out for the red rune aura appear above Hemming just before the attack begins.

Other than the dive attack, Hemming will spam swift strikes numerous times with his electrical spear. You can parry these if you’re quick enough, which will make Hemming vulnerable long enough for you to retaliate with a heavy attack. If you struggle to get the timing right with the parries, a dodge or roll will avoid being hit just as easily, but Hemming will continue to strike at you if you don’t get far enough away. When you do create some distance between Eivor and Hemming, make the most of this by targeting Hemming’s weak points on his right leg, right arm, and left shoulder. If you can hit all three, you’ll make him vulnerable to a stun attack which will deal a significant amount of damage.

(1 of 4) Be ready to dodge or roll out of the way of Hemming’s dive attack.

As you bring Hemming’s health down, he’ll move to different areas nearby. You’ll need to navigate the rocks here to reach him, and at the same time avoid his ranged attacks. When a ranged attack is incoming, you’ll be notified by the red mark at the centre of your screen (the same one which appears for all incoming ranged attacks). Try to move out of the way as soon as you see Hemming release the projectile. The fight should be easy once you’ve got a feeling for these basic mechanics, but if you want to speed things up remember to make use of your high damage abilities.
