This page details how to get the highest mastery points for the gold medal during the Trial of the Wolf at the East Anglia - Dunwic Mastery Challenge.
How to Get the Gold Medal¶
Trial of the Wolf Objectives¶
To earn the gold medal for the Trial of the Wolf at Dunwic, you need to earn the following points for each objective, which amount to the perfect score of 1,000 points combined.
Objective | Mastery Points |
---|---|
Headshot kills | 490 |
Weak points hit | 378 |
Eliminate Hildiran | 132 |
Combine Weak Point Hits and Headshot Kills¶
This is a fairly simple trial which can be completed within about 5 minutes. However, you’ll need to have good aim and be able to consistently hit weak points, followed by headshot kills. This will be easiest towards the beginning of the trial, when you only have to face one version of Hildiran at a time. The first versions of Hildiran will also be easier to hit, since most of their weak points are located on their lower body, usually the foot. If you hit the weak point just once, they will fall to their knees. This exposes their head which makes a headshot kill easy, so long as you aim properly. You can take some time to get closer to the enemy to ensure a headshot kill if necessary.
Focus of the Nornir Ability¶
As you kill more versions of Hildiran by first hitting their weak points and then finishing them off with headshot kills, you’ll notice that more arrive and attack at the same time. You’ll need to deal with them quickly to avoid being overwhelmed, but if you find that there are 3+ Hildiran’s running towards you, be sure to use the Focus of the Nornir ability. This will slow time and allow you to shoot multiple arrows without the enemies having a chance to move much. Although useful, you’ll need to be careful not to accidentally kill an enemy before you get a chance to headshot them, since each successful hit while Focus of the Nornir is active will increase your damage output.
Weak Point Examples¶
The below gif shows some examples of where you can expect to find weak points on different versions of Hildiran, how to hit them and then quickly follow the hit up with a headshot kill:
Dual-Wielding Hildirans¶
You will soon begin to see versions of Hildiran which dual-wield axes. These are much swifter than other versions and they will be relentless in chaining their attacks. You’ll need to perform some Perfect Dodges to slow time as you avoid their incoming attacks, and take the opportunity to hit their weak points while time is slowed. These versions of Hildiran have their weak point on their chest, rather than their foot, which can be more difficult to hit. This is mostly because the dual-wielding Hildirans will often spin as they attack you, so one of your arrows could easily hit their side or their back, even if you initially aimed at their chest. This can make things difficult because you may inflict enough damage to kill them before you get a chance to hit the weak point or perform a headshot kill.
Ultimately, this trial relies on good aim and the ability to deal with each version of Hildiran before you get overwhelmed. It may take a bit of practice to hit all the weak points and achieve headshot kills, but the trial allows one or two mistakes here and there, so don’t worry too much if you kill one of the Hildirans before shooting their weak point, or if you kill them without it being a headshot. Make good use of the Focus of the Nornir ability if you’re struggling to keep up with the waves of opponents, and you should be fine.
