How to Get the Gold Medal

Trial of the Bear Objectives

To earn the gold medal for the Trial of the Bear at Calleva Outpost, you need to earn the following points for each objective, which amount to the perfect score of 1,000 points combined.

Objective Mastery Points
Rush & Bash kills 490
Stun attack kills 360
Eliminate the attackers 150

Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the special ability and gear bonuses for the trial.

Prioritise Stun Attack Kills

To begin the trial, you’ll first need to interact with the throne in the area. It’s marked with a quest icon, so you should be able to find it easily. Once you do, six enemies will spawn, all of them bandits. If you kill all six of these with stun attacks, you’ll complete that objective in the first round. All you need to do is wait for the enemies to attack you, then perform a parry just before their attack lands. This will briefly stun them and deplete some of their stamina bar. Once their stamina bar is completely depleted after multiple parries, you’ll be able to execute a stun attack. You’ll need to do this for all six of the enemies to complete the objective. If you did this correctly, you should have a score of 410 at this point.

How to Perform Rush & Bash Kills

The second round begins once you interact with the throne again. Another set of enemies will spawn, this time five of them. You won’t be able to kill most of them with Rush & Bash if you use the ability while the enemies are at full health, so you’ll need to bring them down to at least half health first. You can do this by hitting them with regular attacks, but the safest way to do it is by performing a sprint attack, which will result in a flying kick if you have the Sprint Attack (Way of the Wolf) skill. This will almost always ensure that you deal a significant amount of damage without exposing yourself too much, and it will interrupt any attacks from the bandits in the process.

Once you’ve got an enemy down to at least half of their full health, you can position yourself so that you’re facing a wall or other sturdy object. However, the most reliable method to perform a Rush & Bash kill is to charge at an enemy and run them into a wall, since some objects will break upon impact and this could result in the death of the bandit without the kill counting towards the objective. As with the first, this is a relatively simple and easy objective to complete, so long as you pay attention to your surroundings and don’t expose yourself too much to attacks from multiple sides. If you run out of adrenaline bars while performing Rush & Bash, you’ll find plenty of replenishing mushrooms on the ground. If you have the Thrill of War (Way of the Raven) skill, you’ll regenerate adrenaline over time while you’re in combat regardless.

(1 of 2) You’ll need to wean the enemies with regular attacks or Sprint Attack, as seen here, before you can kill them with one Rush & Bash hit.

How to Kill the Madman, Goliath, & Boar

The final round will begin once you interact with the throne again. This time you’ll be attacked by a Madman, a Goliath, and a boar. You only need to kill the Madman and the Goliath with a Rush & Bash kill, so you can deal with the boar in any way you see fit first. This is fortunate, since the Goliath has a tendency to throw the boar around the area, casting into fire pits, objects, walls, and even outside of the arena at times. It’s important that you kill the boar quickly to avoid a situation where the boar has been thrown out of the arena, and therefore out of your reach.

Once you’ve dealt with the boar, you can work on bringing the health of the Madman and the Goliath down to between 25% - 50%. As with the regular bandits, the best way to do this without exposing yourself too much is to hit them with Sprint Attacks. This will often knock each enemy down, giving you an opportunity to Stomp them, but you should avoid doing this as it could result in a critical hit which has a high chance of killing the enemy before you get the chance to perform a Rush & Bash. Instead, just hit the enemy when they’re on the ground until they’re low enough for a Rush & Bash to kill them.

As the Madman and Goliath are elite units, you’ll need to look out for their special attacks and avoid them to ensure that you don’t take too much damage. The Goliath will spawn red rune aura attacks which usually come in the form of a belly rush or a grab and throw. Both of these are capable of throwing you into objects and walls which will inflict a significant amount of damage upon impact, so you’ll need to avoid the attacks with a quick dodge or roll away. The Goliath will also resist most of your Rush & Bash attacks while he has full health, so you’ll need to spam buttons to escape a throw attack if this occurs.

On the other hand, the Madman is all about fire. He will spam fire breathing attacks which are usually indicated by a line of oil that he casts on the ground. You’ll be able to see where this oil is cast, so you can run away from it before the fire erupts. You’ll want to use Sprint Attack as much as possible against the Madman in order to counter his fire attacks before he gets a chance to cast them, or to interrupt one in the process of being cast.

Once you’ve killed both the Madman and the Goliath with Rush & Bash, you should have completed this final objective, thereby completing the challenge and earning a gold medal.

(1 of 5) Kill the boar first to ensure that it counts toward the “eliminate all enemies” objective before the Goliath throws it out of the arena.
