Assassin's Creed: Valhalla

Bloody Path to Peace

By

This quest begins once you’ve completed both The Supply Line and Ransacking Wenlocan. Now that you’ve weakened the Briton forces, it’s time for an assault on their village of Wesberie.

Find Wesberie & Burn Cottages

You’ll find Wesberie far to the west of Quatford, on the borders of the map, as shown below. You’ll need to speak with Ivarr and Ceolbert before you begin the assault, who can be found in the woods northeast of Wesberie. Be sure to use your raven to identify their precise location. Approach them to begin a brief cutscene, during which you’ll have a few dialogue options. The first set have no consequences, but you’ll need to choose whether to attack the village from stealth or by an open attack. Either way, you’ll need to burn the cottages in the village to complete the objective, and both options will allow you to do that. You’ll find it a little quicker by running in for the attack openly, but if you take too long Ivarr and Ceolbert will join you anyway.

(1 of 4) The location of Wesberie, southwest of Quatford.

The easiest way to burn the cottages is by throwing torches on their roofs. Alternatively, you can light your arrows from the nearby fires and shoot at the roofs. If you’re unsure about which buildings count as cottages, use Odin’s Sight to highlight them. In the largest cottage at the centre of Wesberie you’ll find a treasure chest containing a Nickel Ingot, so be sure to loot this as you go through. Once all of the marked cottages are on fire, you’ll need to kill any remaining soldiers if you haven’t already done so. When all of them are dead, Ynyr will arrive with reinforcements from the south. You’ll have to meet these and defeat them, along with Ynyr as a boss fight.

Defeat Ynyr & Reinforcements

The boss fight with Ynyr is much easier than most. He doesn’t have a massive amount of health like a proper boss, and he has no healing abilities. There are no attacks that he performs which can’t be blocked or parried, but he has a good amount of reach with his two-handed spears, so you’ll need to be cautious when you approach him. You can choose to equip a weapon with long reach yourself to counter his advantage, shoot him from afar, or join Ivarr up close and personal. You’ll find weak points on his back, his left arm, and his left leg. In truth, this is an easy boss fight and Ynyr should be defeated quickly as soon as Ivarr focuses on him alongside Eivor. When Ynyr dies, be sure to loot his body for the unique Cadfarch Spear.

When Ynyr and the reinforcements are dead, meet with Ivarr and Ceolbert in the west of Wesberie. You’ll have a few dialogue options here, but you can choose any and it won’t impact the story significantly. During the conversation Ceolbert will suggest a spot of fishing to clear the mind. Follow him and Ivarr southeast to a nearby pond. Once you reach the pond, use your fishing line to catch some eel.

(1 of 3) When all the guards in Wesberie are dead, Ynyr will arrive with reinforcements.

Once you’ve caught enough eel, speak with Ivarr just to the east by the pond. Once again you’ll have some dialogue options which determine whether or not you agree with Ivarr, but regardless of which you choose it won’t impact the story in any significant way. After a brief cutscene during which a camp is established, the Britons will arrive for peace negotiations. You can respond to the dialogue here in whatever way you see fit. When the negotiations end, you’ll need to find Ceolbert to inform him.

Find Ceolbert

To begin the search for Ceolbert, you’ll need to check his tent in the west of the camp. Next, speak with the guards nearby. You can speak with all of them if you want, but the main one who will lead to some valuable information is to the north. His drunken brother was the last to see Ceolbert, but he’s still recovering from celebratory drinks. If you have at least level 3 Charisma, you will be able to pick the drunkard up and throw him in the nearby pond. He will then tell you that Ceolbert might be found in a nearby cave. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait a bit for the information.

If you don’t have enough Charisma and would rather not wait, just head to the cave marked on the map above, south of Wesberie. As you near the cave entrance you can use your raven to scout it. There are boar and wolves in the woods surrounding it, so keep an eye our for them. When you enter the cave Eivor will note some blood on the ground. You’ll need to delve deeper to find Ceolbert. Near the back of the cave you’ll encounter three wolves. Kill them and then move the stone barrier blocking the way to Ceolbert. When you reach him, examine the body to find a Briton dagger. Sadly, the wound seems serious enough to take his life.

(1 of 7) Check Ceolbert’s tent in the west of the camp.

After the brief cutscene you’ll need to take Ceolbert back to Wesberie. On the way back through the cave, you’ll need to climb on the rock surface to your right to take Ceolbert out with you. When you return to the camp, a cutscene will play during which you’ll need to tell Ivarr the truth, in some form or another. It doesn’t matter what you choose here, the outcome will be the same. At the end of the scene, you can choose to continue to the next quest now or wait if you want to do other things first.
