Sidequest: Second Chance

Asterisk Holder Rematches

The map is a bit misleading as there are actually two sidequests in Florem.

This looks Bravely familiar… When you return to the world map, you’ll be met by a plethora of blue exclamation marks at some very familiar locations. You’ve probably guessed it, but you can repeat all of the previous asterisk holder sidequests from Chapters 1 to 3.

As such, you can acquire any of the jobs that you didn’t choose during your first playthrough! We definitely recommend doing all of them, not just for completion’s sake. Keep in mind that all of the asterisk holders are stronger than before, but then again you’re stronger yourself as well.

In addition, if you completed a particular sidequest, our heroes will use the power of foresight to greatly speed up the sidequest. You can also hammer the X button to skip through cutscenes to get straight to the boss battles.

Original Chapter Start Location Sidequest
1 Desert Oasis Thief vs Red Mage
1 Miasma Woods Summoner vs Swordmaster
2 House by the Sea White Mage vs Merchant
2 Yunohana Black Mage vs Ranger
2 Starkfort Knight vs Ninja
3 Florem Valkyrie vs Monk
3 Florem Performer vs Pirate
3 Grandship Time Mage vs Dark Knight

Plain Sailing

Generally, you don’t need to prepare specifically for the rematches, but it helps a lot. Before going anywhere, grab the Doujigiri-Yasutsuna from the Geyser Gotto–this katana is effective against humanoids and will cut through the asterisk holders like they’re paper.

If you want to quickly gain experience or job points, you should grind on the undead Grapp Keep’s second floor. To start with, have your Bishop cast Benediction x2 or Vivify x4 on the enemy party to KO them. Also level up some characters in the Bishop job so they can do the same.

After a character has learned Holy Magic Level 5, level them up in the White Mage job to learn Group-Cast Master. With that equipped, a single cast of Benediction will wipe out the enemy party. From here, it should become very easy to chain multiple battles.

To grind safely, give your healer(s) the Earthing Rod to negate the effect of Mummify or up their speed with the Hermes Sandals and Speed 20% Up (Thief) to avoid getting outrun.
