The Ancient Mine area is along the northern route (if you refrain from crossing the lake) from your capital to Lake Silverstep Village, considerably closer to the former than the latter. Despite this, it’s technically in the Varnhold region.

This generic area is home to an Ancient Wyvern, a powerful foe with numerous attacks per round. Buff up your tank and engage with that character, then let the rest of your party join in after its attention has been sufficiently drawn to your tank and it should be pretty easy to cut down. It’ll drop an Amulet of Natural Armor +2 when vanquished.
