Description¶
This page offers a guide on grabbing the Shine Sprite in Episode 8 of Ricco Harbor. This area is accessed via the Rainbow M on the side of the Boathouse on the west side of Delfino Plaza once you’ve obtained at least 3 Shines and defeated the Polluted Piranha.
Hatching Yoshi¶
Before you can even attempt to collect this Shine, you’ll first need to complete Pinna Park’s Episode 4 to cause Shadow Mario and an egg to appear in Delfino Plaza. Defeat Shadow Mario and bring the designated fruit to Yoshi to unlock him, including Ricco Harbor. As such, your first objective here is to locate a Yoshi egg so begin by using the nearby sewer entrance and resurface at the exit at the very end to find yourself on the main street.
You’ll find the Yoshi egg here and that it requires a Durian to hatch, this is the fruit that cannot be picked up and must be kicked instead. To begin, use one of the sewers exits to reach the higher rooftops against the wall and then use your Hover Nozzle to reach the two brick towers marked with “*Fruits”*. On the top of these towers, you’ll be able to Ground Pound them to cause fruit to appear, keep doing this until the Durian appears and then kick it over to the Yoshi egg to hatch it.

Path to the Shine Sprite¶
Now the first thing you should note about Yoshi is that he doesn’t like water, touching it will cause him to sprint off without you so avoid it all costs. You’ll also notice that while on Yoshi, you can spew Juice, if you spray this at enemies, it will create a platform for you to jump to and considering Yoshi can jump higher and further than Mario, this will allow you to reach areas you couldn’t before.
Head to the edge of the square here and near the arrow sign you’ll spot fish rising out of the water. Wait for the fish to be higher in the air and use Yoshi’s Juice to create a platform. Leap on to this platform and wait for it to move closer to the next platform, jumping over when you get there. Do the same here to reach the next platform and then look behind you to spot part of the cliff you can jump to that houses a tree with a Coconut.

Have Yoshi eat the Coconut and this will in turn, change his Juice to a Pink color, allow you to change the fish into platforms that will move vertically (as opposed to the horizontal ones from before). Return to the previous platform and spray a fish to create a platform taking you higher, then repeat this until you reach the tower that houses the Shine Sprite. Your final task is to use Yoshi’s Juice one final time to remove the Orange Juice, hop off him with the Y button (don’t do this near the edge) and climb into the tower to claim your Shine.
