Description

This page offers a guide on grabbing the Shine Sprite in Episode 4 of Ricco Harbor. This area is accessed via the Rainbow M on the side of the Boathouse on the west side of Delfino Plaza once you’ve obtained at least 3 Shines and defeated the Polluted Piranha.

Path to Ricco Tower

In order to even reach Ricco Tower, you’ll first need to have activated the Rocket Nozzle boxes back in Episode 3, if you’ve yet to do that, go back and do it now. Once activated, Ground Pound the nearby sewer at the Course entrance and follow the sewers past the first exit and then head left at the fork, leaping out at the next exit to reach the rooftops.

(1 of 2) Use the Rocket Nozzle to launch yourself up the tower with the aid of these planks

Use the Rocket Nozzle to launch yourself up the tower with the aid of these planks (left), then enter the tower itself at the very top. (right)

From here, hover back over to the blue platforms and over to a Rocket Nozzle box before returning to the previous sewer exit. From here, use the Rocket Nozzle to blast up the tower, landing on the walkways to reach the higher parts where you’ll find an entrance to the tower at the top.

Ricco Tower

As soon as you enter, you’ll spot that Shadow Mario has stolen your FLUDD and that there’s a Shine awaiting you at the end of this obstacle course, all of which you’ll have to do without the aid of FLUDD. To begin with, you’ll need to deal with rotating wooden beams, running up them as they rotate both directions. Before you continue to the cogs, be sure to make use of a Wall Jump to pick up a much needed 1-Up Mushroom.

The next step will involve said cogs, they’ll rotate just like the previous beams but these should less of a problem, be sure to go from right to left in order and wait for the cogs to come closer before making your jumps, eventually you’ll reach the platform with nails in the middle.

(1 of 5) Aim to cross over to the other side of the beam when positioned like this

The final step will return to the rotating wooden beams, all of which are moving in different directions so make sure you time your jumps and making sure the landing is not to steep or you’ll slide off to your death. Note that the second to last wooden beam is longer than the previous ones, requiring you to dash to the right before forward again to reach the last beam and subsequently, the Shine.
