Description¶
This page offers a guide on how to collect the 8 Coins of Dirty Lake. This is a hidden shine that is found within other episodes. To access the area where you find the red coins, you’ll need to have already completed The Secret of the Dirty Lake. You don’t have to return to this level to access the cave in the lake, you can access the cave in any of the levels, so you don’t need to traverse through the dirty lake again!
Collecting the 8 Red Coins¶
When you reach the cave in the lake, ground pound the red button to spawn in the red coins. You’ll then have one minute and thirty seconds to collect all 8 coins. The layout of the area is the same as the obstacle section in The Secret of the Dirty Lake. The difference now is that you have your FLUDD device, so you can hover over certain tricky areas.
You’ll have a minute and a half to collect all 8 red coins in this area.
The 1st coin is above one of the red rotating platforms up ahead. Grab it and then make your way over to the spinning star platform and collect the 2nd coin above the 1-up Mushroom. Use your hover function to fly across to the yellow platform from the white cube, where you can grab a 3rd red coin.
Head up onto the second rotating white cube and collect the 4th and 5th coins as it moves up towards the final section.
The final three coins are found above these red and blue rotating platforms. The 6th coin is just up ahead, within the route of the furthest blue platform. You’ll need to time when you hop onto the blue platform so you can actually jump for the coin. The 7th is at the center of the area, above a red platform. Then, the final 8th coin is down and to the right above the blue platform in the bottom corner. When you have all 8 red coins, the Shine Sprite will spawn on the green platform at the end.
Collecting all red coins within the time frame will earn you a Shine.
