Description¶
This page offers a walkthrough of The Floating Fortress in Buoy Base Galaxy. This galaxy is unlocked at 30 Stars and after completing Sunken Treasure in Beach Bowl Galaxy.
Within this level you can also grab a Green Power Star. Head to Hidden Green Star: The Secret of Buoy Base for more information.
Guide the Torpedo Ted¶
The first thing you need to do is locate the large weighted orb thats chained to the buoy. The buoy is being held down so you need to destroy the weighted orb. You’ll need to guide a Torpedo Ted into the weight to smash it to bits. There are a couple of Ted spawners nearby.
Use the Torpedo Ted to explode the weight that’s holding the Fortress down.
Collect the Pull Star Chips¶
Once you’ve destroyed the weight, a large portion of the fortress will rise to the top of the water and you’ll now be able to climb up it! Along this climb you’ll find Thwomps, a Bomp and many other minor enemies. You’ll need to navigate up and along this structure searching for the 5 Pull Star pieces. When you get to around half way up, you’ll come across a Gearmo who will ask you to spin the Green Valve. When you do so, the water shooters will turn off and a Spring Topman will spawn. Use the Spring Topman to launch yourself onto the higher platform.

On this higher platform you’ll need to spin the screw which will activate the rotating platforms. You’ll find four out of five of the pull star chips around the rotating platforms. The last star chip is above the first thwomp you encountered. You can either drop down from one of the rotating platforms or backflip jump onto the Thwomp from the lower level to grab this first Pull Star piece.
Collect all of the Star Chips to progress.
Laser Planet¶
When you have all 5 Star Chips, climb up to the top of the fortress and use the Jump Guarder to jump up to the Pull Stars. You’ll then be drawn in the by the gravity of a new planet. On this planet there are two Ball Beamers on opposite ends of the planet. The one on the bottom where you begin looks like a nut and the one at the top is a screw that you’ll need to spin to unscrew. The Beamers will fire out circular laser beams fairly quickly so you’ll have to do a lot of jumping to avoid all of the beams.
When you spin and unscrew the bolt at the top of the planet, the planet will open up and reveal a ball of water with a star at the centre, surrounded by star bits. Dive into the water and grab the star to complete the level!
