Description¶
This page offers a guide on grabbing the Shine Sprite in Episode 1 of Ricco Harbor. This area is accessed via the Rainbow M on the side of the Boathouse on the west side of Delfino Plaza once you’ve obtained at least 3 Shines and defeated the Polluted Piranha.
Tracking down Gooper Blooper¶
Upon entering the harbor for the first time, you’ll discover that the water has become polluted so your first task is to track down the one responsible for it. Begin by heading up the nearby ramp and onto the boat where you’ll spot a fence with two gates on it. In order to flip the gates, climb onto the part of the fence where the gate is situated and use the Y button. You’ll spot a Blooper on the ground below so consider flipping the top gate to avoid it and then climb to the top of the fence by pressing the B button when hanging underneat the top gate.

From the top of this boat, look to the right to spot a platform being rotated by a crane, wait for it to appraoch and then leap onto it, getting off once you reach the platform with the yellow fence. Climb either side of the yellow fence and climb across to the top right of this area where you’ll find another platform that has a rotating platform passing by.
Wait for the platform to arrive and jump on to it to reach the other side where it will seem there’s nowhere else to go. Speak to the nearby Piantas to learn how to proceed and then use FLUDD to spray the propeller, causing both a submarine and Blue Coin to appear. Snag the Coin and then quickly cross the submarine before it descends, leaping to the other ground on the other side.

Dispatch any Bloopers that may try to attack (spray them and then jump on top of them once they’re stunned) and then wait for the platform to lower. Leap to it and then ride it up and jump up to grab the bottom of the fence and climb to street level. Run up the street to the cargo containers and you’ll spot a tentacle wiggling around, grab it with the Y button to trigger the battle with Gooper Blooper.
Gooper Blooper Boss Fight¶
The first thing you’ll notice is the large amount of ink on Gooper Blooper’s face so begin by spraying it to remove it and, in turn, anger the octopus. At this point, Gooper Blooper will retaliate by flinging his tentacles at you, evade them and they’ll remain motionless, allowing you to use the Y button to pull on them before letting go, removing them completely.

Once two-four tentacles have been dealt with, spray Gooper Blooper’s face once more and then pull on his mouth and letting go, causing direct damage to it. You’ll need to repeat this process once more, only this time, Gooper Blooper will begin shooting Ink Balls at Mario if you’re cowering too far away from him. Once you’ve successfuly struck Gooper Blooper’s mouth twice, it will cause it to fall back into the water and reward you with a Shine.
