The Underground Ghost Ship

The goal of this level is to reach the Underground Ghost Ship and defeat the evil witch, Kamella!

Fire Mario

When you pick up a Fire Flower, you become Fire Mario! In The Underground Ghost Ship and Bubble Blastoff, you’ll need to use the Fire Flower to progress through the level. When you’re Fire Mario, you can shoot out bouncing balls of fire using Y.

Enemies

  • Boos - The Boos will move towards you when you aren’t facing them. You can’t spin attack or jump on them to defeat them - and if you try, you’ll get damaged. You can use a spotlight to defeat them as they hate light.

  • Goombas - Goombas will simply run at you and try to damage you by touching Mario. To defeat them, spin attack them then run at them to kick them away, or just jump on their head.

  • Crabbers - The crabbers can be temporarily stunned by jumping on them, but they cannot be defeated permanently this way. To defeat them, you’ll need to throw a shell at them.

  • Octoguys - Octoguys will throw rocks at Mario that you’ll need to avoid. You can easily defeat them by spin attacking or jumping.

You can use the Rainbow Star to run right through the Octoguys.

  • Petapeta - They are only visible when Mario isn’t moving and if he moves, the Petapeta will be invisible. The Petapeta can be located if it’s invisible by looking out for footprints. If you spin attack where the freshest footprints are, you’ll be able to hit the Petapeta, making him visible and incapacitated. Jump on the incapacitated Petapeta for a bunch of Star Bits.

  • Bloopers - Bloopers are squid-like creatures that will follow you around in an attempt to harm you. You cannot defeat them but you can swim away from them easily as they’re pretty slow.

  • Jammyfish - Jammyfish are often found swimming in groups of four. They are underwater creatures that will damage you if you touch them, but otherwise they aren’t hostile towards Mario.

  • Underwater Mines - Underwater Mines are spiky and will damage you if you go near them. They are similar to space mines except underwater!

  • Jellyfish - Jellyfish will shock you if you go near them. They can be defeated using koopa shells but there isn’t much point in attacking it as it isn’t really hostile.

  • Magikoopas - Magikoopas are wizard enemies that will shoot evil magic at you. If you jump on them they’re defeated quite easily.

Boss Enemy - Kamella

Once your on the ship, you’ll begin your boss fight with Kamella. She will shoot out fire balls and green shells. Your goal is to grab the green shells and chuck them back at her! The best way to do this is to jump and then throw the shell in her direction. She often disappears and pops up in new areas so watch out that you don’t throw your shell too late.

Shoot the green shells back at Kamella to defeat her!

When you successfully hit her twice, she will move up to the crow’s nest. Use the pole to climb up to the crow’s nest. Here, you’ll find that she has spawned in two Magikoopas. These will shoot out fireballs, so you want to make sure you take them out quickly as the crow’s nest will be overwhelmed with fireballs. You’ll need to hit Kamella with two more green shells to defeat her for good.

This boss fight will also be the focus of the Daredevil Comet level, Ghost Ship Daredevil Run, in which you’ll have to fight Kamella without taking a single bit of damage.

Bubble Blastoff

During this level, you’ll need to fight the Undergrunt Gunner and also use the Bubble Blasters to your advantage as you make your way through the level towards the Power Star.

Ice Mario

In this level, you’ll need to use both Fire Flowers and Ice Flowers. When you are Ice Mario, you will have the ability to walk on water by creating frozen hexes. You can use this to walk across bodies of water and jump on water spouts.

New Enemies

  • Bubble Blaster - The Bubble Blaster will shoot bubbles periodically. If you’re caught in one you’ll be transported through the air. In this level, Bubble Blasters can be very useful!

  • Cheep Cheeps - Cheep Cheeps are fish-bird hybrids that jump around in the water. They can be defeated by spinning them or jumping on their heads.

  • Ball Beamer - The Ball Beamer is found on the final planet of this level. It will shoot out laser rings periodically that you will have to jump over to avoid being electrocuted.

  • Fire Bar - Fire Bars are obstacles that you’ll need to navigate around. They’re not hostile or animate, but they will definitely get in your way! If you touch one, you’ll be burned causing you to jump around frantically.

  • Fire Pressures - These look very similar to Bubble Blasters, except instead of harmless bubbles, it shoots out fire!

On this planet you’ll need to groundpound the tree stumps, but watch out for the Cheep Cheeps!

Boss Enemy - Undergrunt Gunner

This Undergrunt Gunner will appear at the start of the level. You’ll need to defeat the Undergrunt Gunner as he is covering the cannon that you need to use to complete this level. To do this, you’ll need to spin attack the nearby coconuts into his machine. Do this three times to defeat him for good. Whilst you’re battling the Undergrunt Gunner, watch out for the Crabbers. He will also be shooting bubbles at you, which can make you float away if you don’t spin out of them quick enough.

Hidden Star Level: Boo in a Box

This hidden star is found within Bubble Blastoff. The goal of this hidden star is to shine a spotlight on the Boo in the box.

New Enemy

  • Big Eels - The Giant Eels will not chase you, but if you’re caught in their path they will either bite you or slap you with their tails.

  • Urchin
  • Underwater Mines

You will need to spin the Boo into the spotlight in order to retrieve the Power Star!

Guppy and the Underground Lake

The goal of this level is to confront Guppy and swim through all eight of his rings in order to earn a Power Star.

  • Urchins
  • Underwater Mines

Boss Enemy - Guppy

To beat Guppy, you’ll need to swim through all eight of his rings. You cannot defeat him in a fight so you’ll just have to do as he asks and complete the ring route.

To win against Guppy, you need to swim through all of his rings.
