Description

This page offers an overview of the Buoy Base Galaxy in the Kitchen dome. This galaxy requires 30 stars to unlock, and you also need to have completed Sunken Treasure in Beach Bowl Galaxy.

The Floating Fortress

This level is made up of two planets. Your goal is to reach the top of the fortress and find the star. There are lots of different enemies in this level as it has an underwater and above water section.

Enemies

  • Goombas - Goombas will simply run at you and try to damage you by touching Mario. To defeat them, spin attack them then run at them to kick them away, or just jump on their head.

  • Torpedo Teds - Torpedo Teds are basically underwater Bullet Bills. They will chase after you like homing missiles and try to hit you. You can guide them into structures to destory them though.

  • Octoguys - Octoguys will throw rocks at Mario that you’ll need to avoid. You can easily defeat them by spin attacking or jumping on them.

  • Bloopers - Bloopers are squid-like creatures that will follow you around in an attempt to harm you. You cannot defeat them but you can swim away from them easily as they’re pretty slow.

  • Thwomps - Thwomps will crush you and defeat you instantly if he is standing beneath them when they crash down. You cannot defeat them in this level, so you’ll just have to avoid being crushed by them.

The Thwomps are angry and will crush you if given the chance.

  • Amps - Amps are hazardous electrical orbs that will damage you if you touch them. This amp is found on the first layer of rotating platforms.

  • Spring Topmen - Spring Topmen are Topmen with Springs that you can use to jump to higher places.

  • Topminis - Topminis won’t damage you but they will try to knock you into electrical barriers by spinning into you. You can spin them into barriers or jump on them to defeat them.

  • Bomp - The Bomp does not look as angry and evil as the Thwomp. It won’t damage you, but it will push you off the ledge and back into the water, if you’re in its way.

The Bomps are a little cuter than Thwomps, but they’re still pretty annoying.

  • Urchins - The Urchins are spiky sea creatures that will damage you if you touch them. You can’t defeat them by jumping on them or spin attacking them. You’ll need to either use a shell, guide a Torpedo Ted into them or use a Rainbow Star if you have access to one.

  • Water Shooters - These will shoot bubbles at you. If you get caught in them, you’ll be transported away in said bubble. To deactivate them, spin the green valve on the same platform as the gearmo.

  • Ball Beamer - There are two Ball Beamers on opposite ends of the final planet. The one on the bottom where you begin looks like a nut and the one at the top is a screw that you’ll need to spin to unscrew. The Beamers will fire out circular laser beams fairly quickly so you’ll have to do a lot of jumping to avoid all of the beams.

The Secrets of Buoy Base

This level takes place within The Floating Fortress level. It will have all of the same enemies, except for the new ones found in the hidden area. Only the new enemies in the hidden area are listed below:

Enemies

  • Bullet Bills - These Bullet Bills will lock onto you and fly towards you if they spot you. The best way to defeat them in this level is to guide them into flying towards the edges of the path or into the Green Star’s cage.

  • Goombeetles - Goombeetles are Goombas who have helmets and therefore cannot be defeated by jumping on their heads. They will still head towards you like any regular Goomba but you will have to spin attack them with Y making them vulnerable to your jump.

  • Big Amps - Big Amps are large electrical orbs that will electrocute you if you touch them. There are a fair few in this hidden area that are rotating around the caged Green Star.

Guide the Bullet Bill into the cage but make sure you avoid the big amps!
