How to Beat Demi-Human Chief in Coastal Cave

By
Scott Peers

This page details where to find and how to defeat Demi-Human Chief in Limgrave. Includes an overview of attacks and strategy to defeat the boss.

Demi-Human Chief Location in Limgrave

You’ll find the Demi-Human Chief boss at the Coastal Cave in southwestern Limgrave, southwest of the Church of Elleh. The cave hosts a number of lesser Demi-Humans that you’ll need to defeat as you make your way through. You’ll also be fighting a number of these lesser enemies alongside the two Demi-Human Chiefs in the main chamber. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to find and speak with Boc the Seamster, who can initially be found disguised as a small tree / bush just northwest of Murkwater Bridge. Once you’ve spoken to him for the first time, you’ll find him again inside the entrance to the Coastal Cave upon resting. This is important because you’ll have the option to give him the Sewing Needle looted from the Demi-Human Chief, something we highly recommend if you want to use Boc’s services later on.

Attacks

Once you enter the main chamber of the cave and begin the boss fight, you’ll notice that there are in fact two Demi-Human Chiefs. However, they’re essentially the same in terms of their attack patterns.

Jump & Stab

This is one of the most common attacks used by the Demi-Human Chiefs. It consists of them jumping into the air and striking twice downwards with both of their weapons in either hand. The attack is fairly easy to avoid since it has a short range, allowing you to simply run out of the way in most cases.

Overhead Slam

This attack is similar to the one above, with the main differences being that the boss will use only one of their weapons to slam into the ground, and with a greater range. You’ll need to be more careful to avoid this one, and it may require a dodge or roll.

Quick Slash

This is a simple attack which consists of the boss quickly slashing once in an arc in front of them.

Spinning Attack

This is a swift spinning attack which has a decent range, so you’ll need to be careful to avoid it. You’ll notice when the boss is about to use it as they pull their right arm back behind them, ready to spin.

Strategy

As a general rule, it’s a good idea to focus on one boss at a time when you’re facing two of them. This applies here, and it is made easier by the fact that both of the Demi-Human Chiefs have a fairly small amount of health. However, you’ll notice that there are a number of lesser Demi-Humans in the cave which you’ll need to fight alongside the bosses. If you can, it’s a good idea to focus on killing these first so that they don’t cause problems later on. If you’re a magic user, an AoE spell will work well to take a few of them out at the beginning of the fight. As a melee user, try to start the fight by hitting at least two of them with a swipe attack.

The Demi-Human Chiefs are fairly quick on their feet, but the attacks are easy to avoid if you keep moving. Try to create some distance between yourself and the bosses before you take out some of the lesser enemies, and don’t get too greedy with chain attacks. You can execute 1-2 attacks each time you stop, but you’ll want to move on again to preserve stamina and avoid being overwhelmed by any enemies that might have caught up at this point. Once all the lesser enemies are dead, try to focus on one of the bosses first.

If you’re lucky, one of the Demi-Human Chiefs will be at the back of the cave, with the other at the front. In this scenario you can comfortably deal with one boss at a time. However, it’s most likely that you’ll be fighting both at the same time, so you’ll need to be extra careful to avoid being cornered by both of them. Try to remain in the centre of the cave as you kite them, and avoid corners that will be difficult to get out of when you’re surrounded.

(1 of 3) You should begin the fight by killing as many lesser Demi-Humans as quickly as possible.

A magic user will arguably have the easiest time here, especially if you use Spirit Ashes to distract the enemies, allowing you to cast spells without fear of interruption. However, even as a melee user this is one of the easiest boss fights once you’re familiar with the attacks that you’ll need to avoid. You can block all of the attacks from both bosses and you can easily dodge most of their attacks. The main thing that you’ll need to keep an eye on whether you’re a melee or magic user is stamina consumption, since this powers your ability both attack and defend. Don’t get too greedy with attacks, keep moving around the cave to maintain distance from the boss attacks, and be patient as you wait for attack opportunities.
