How to Find Smoldering Church¶

The Smoldering Church is located near the border between Limgrave and Caelid, being found just northwest of the Rotview Balcony Site of Grace and north of the Third Church of Marika. It’s mostly noteworthy as a beginners trap, as the faux invader Anastasia Tarnished-Eater dwells here, and will invade and attack if you get too close to the church. Aside from the aforementioned invader preying on ambitious Tarnished trying to make their way into Caelid for some signature gains (like the Meteorite Staff), this area holds little of interest or significance.

To reach the Smoldering Church, head north across a river from the Third Church of Marika and use three Spirit Springs to ascend the nearby cliffs. Once atop the cliffs, just continue riding north.

How to Complete the Smoldering Church¶

As you approach the Smoldering Church you’ll be invaded by Anastasia Tarnished-Eater, whom you’ll be forced to face before you can properly explore. You won’t be able to summon your mount and the entire area will be enclosed in a barrier - not ideal conditions for searching and plundering. When you defeat Anastasia Tarnished-Eater at this location she’ll drop the Sacred Scorpion Charm and a Furlcalling Finger Remedy.

Defeat Anastasia Tarnished-Eater, then head into the Smoldering Church. Inside you’ll find the Smoldering Church Site of Grace, as well as some corpses that you can loot for the Missionary’s Cookbook (3) and the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook (14).

Otherwise, the location is a suitable staging point for attempts on the Putrid Avatar who guards the entrance to the Minor Erdtree Catacombs to the east.
