There are 13 Ashes of War found around the region of Liurnia, and one to purchase from Pidia, Carian Servent for 3000 Runes, making a total of 14.

Name Location
Ash of War: Carian Retaliation Purchased from Pidia, Carian Servent for 3000 Runes. You can only get to him by climbing down the cliff from the boss area in the Three Sisters sub area.
Ash of War: Ice Spear Dropped by the Night’s Cavalry who patrols along the road on the eastern landmass. You can use the Liurnia Highway North site of grace to force nighttime so that the boss spawns.
Ash of War: Vow of The Indomtiable Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab in a swampy area in the southwest landmass of Liurnia. The nearest site of grace is the Cathedral of Manus Sellus.
Ash Of War: Sword Dance Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab that can be found near the minor Erdtree, north of the Road’s End Catacombs site of grace on the western landmass of Liurnia.
Ash of War: Chilling Mist Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab in the Three Sisters sub area, west of Caria Manor. The Scarab can be found in the ruins south of Renna’s Rise.
Ash of War: Loretta’s Slash Defeat the mandatory boss Royal Knight Loretta, who is a Great Enemy found in Caria Manor near the Mannor Upper Level site of grace.
Ash of War: Carian Grandeur Found in Caria Manor, on top of a large stone stucture. To reach this area, you’ll need to climb down a cliffside in the graveyard from the Manor Upper Level site of grace.
Ash of War: Charge Forth Dropped by a Teardrop Scarab that is attached to the ceiling under a bridge guarded by Poison Pod enemies in the Academy Gate Town area.

Ash of War: Giant Hunt Defeat the giant knight north of the Converted Fringe Tower on the eastern landmass of Liurnia.
Ash of War: Hoarfrost Stomp Dropped by an invisible Teardrop Scarab who can be found in a shallow body of water southeast of Caria Manor.

Ash of War: Carian Retaliation

This Ash of War can be purchased from Pidia, Carian Servent for 3000 Runes. You can only get to him by climbing down the cliff from the boss area in the Three Sisters sub area, even though he is on the balcony above the Manor Lower Level site of grace in the Caria Manor. Carian Retaliation provides Magic affinity, whilst the skill allows you to dispel incoming sorceries and incantations and transforms them into retaliatory glintblades. It has the following description:

“Carian Retaliation: Swing the shield to dispel incoming sorceries and incantations, transforming the magic into retaliatory glintblades. Can also be used in the same way as a regular parry.”

In simple terms, this skill will give you the Magic affinity, which weakens the weapon’s default scaling but adds Intelligence scaling. It also changes to split physical/Magical damage type. With this skill, you’ll be able to dispel incoming sorceries and incantations by waving your shield as they get close. Similar to parrying. Then it will transform any successful dispels into glintbades that’ll be thrown back at the enemy. It can be equipped by all small and medium shields.

Ash of War: Ice Spear

This Ash of War is dropped by the Night’s Cavalry who patrols along the road on the eastern landmass. You can use the Liurnia Highway North site of grace to force nighttime so that the boss spawns. Ice Spear grants a Cold affinity to your armament, and has the following description:

“Ice Spear: Skill of the warriors who served Lunar Princess Ranni. Spin armament to release cold magic, then channel it into a piercing spear of ice.”

In simple terms, this skill allows you to temporarily make your armament deal Frost damage, as well as release a Cold spear made of ice that pierces the enemy. This Ash of War can only be equipped to Spears capable of thrusting and Twinblades.

Ash of War: Vow of The Indomtiable

This Ash of War is dropped by a Teardrop Scarab in a swampy area in the southwest landmass of Liurnia. The nearest site of grace is the Cathedral of Manus Sellus. Vow of The Indomtiable grants you Sacred affinity and momentary invincibility, and has the following description:

“Vow of the Indomitable: Skill of the ancient warriors of the Erdtree. Hold the shield aloft to imbue yourself with golden power, granting momentary invincibility.”

In simple terms, this skill make you to temporarily invincible to attacks, as well as granting you the Sacred affinity which weakens the weapon’s default scaling but adds Faith scaling. Changes to a split physical/Holy damage type. This Ash of War can be equipped to all types of Shields.

Ash Of War: Sword Dance

This Ash of War is dropped by a Teardrop Scarab that can be found near the minor Erdtree, north of the Road’s End Catacombs site of grace on the western landmass of Liurnia. Sword Dance grants you the Keen affinity, and it’ll allow you to quickly close in on the enemy and perform a series of upward slashes with a final downward slash. It has the following description:

“Sword Dance: Quickly close in to perform a series of spinning upward slashes. Follow up with an additional input to finish with a downward slash.”

In simple terms, this skill allows you to close the distance to the enemy, whilst performing a weapon combo which may leave you open to attack. It will grant you the Keen affinity, which enhances Dexterity scaling at the expense of all other attributes. This Ash of War can only be equipped to Swords, Axes, and Polearms capable of slashing (colossal weapons and great spears excepted).

Ash of War: Chilling Mist

This Ash of War is obtained by defeating a Teardrop Scarab in the Three Sisters sub area, west of Caria Manor. The Scarab can be found in the ruins south of Renna’s Rise. Chilling Mist will coat your arnament in Cold before slashing forward and spreading frigid mist forwards. It has the following description:

“Chilling Mist: Coat armament in frost, and then slash, spreading frigid mist forwards. The armament retains its frost for a while.”

In simple terms, temporarily make your armament have the Cold affinity, which weakens the weapon’s default scaling but enhances Intelligence scaling. It’ll also add Frostbite build-up to attacks, as well as release a mist as a cone in front of you, which also builds up Frost. This Ash of War can only be equipped on melee armaments (whips, fists, and claws excepted).

Ash of War: Loretta’s Slash

This Ash of War is obtained by defeating the mandatory boss Royal Knight Loretta, who is a Great Enemy found in Caria Manor near the Mannor Upper Level site of grace. Loretta’s Slash allows you to leap in the air whilst imbuing your armament with Glinstone, before accelerating into a sweeping slash. It has the following description:

“Leap forward, imbuing the blade with glintstone, then descend, accelerating into a sweeping slash.”

In simple terms, this skill allows you to close the distance to the enemy whilst performing a devastating attack at your Foe. This Ash of War can only be equipped to Polearms and Twinblades.

Ash of War: Carian Grandeur

This Ash of War can be found in Caria Manor, on top of a large stone stucture. To reach this area, you’ll need to climb down a cliffside in the graveyard from the Manor Upper Level site of grace. Carian Grandeur will transform your blade into a magical greatsword which can be charged two levels to increase its power. It has the following description:

“Carian Grandeur: Carian royal prestige embodied in a skill. Transform the blade into a magical greatsword and swing it down. Can be charged to increase its power by up to two levels.”

In simple terms, this skill will give you the magic affinity, which weakens the weapon’s default scaling but adds Intelligence scaling. Changes to split physical/Magical damage type, whilst the skill will give you a temporary magical greatsword. This Ash of War can only be equipped to Swords (colossal weapons excepted).

Ash of War: Charge Forth

This Ash of War can be found by defeating a Teardrop Scarab that is attached to the ceiling under a bridge guarded by Poison Pod enemies in the Academy Gate Town area. The nearest site of grace is Academy Gate Town and the bridge is west of it, leading towards Raya Lucaria Academy. You may need to use a ranged attacked to get it to drop. Charge Forth will give your armament Quality affinity, whilst the skill allows you to lunge in with a thrust. It has the following description:

“Charge Forth: Quickly charge forward with the armament at the hip, carrying the momentum into a thrust. Hold to cover a greater distance.”

In simple terms, this skill will give you the quality affinity, which Slightly enhances and evenly balances Strength and Dexterity scaling at the expense of all other attributes. Changes to split physical/Magical damage type, whilst the skill will give you a temporary magical greatsword. This Ash of War can only be equipped to Swords (colossal weapons excepted).

Ash of War: Thop’s Barrier

This Ash of War can be found by defeating a Teardrop Scarab on a small island furthest to the west of Raya Lucaria Academy, northwest from the Temple Quarter site of grace. Thops Barrier will provide you magical affinity and erect a magical forcefield to deflect sorceries and incantation when swinging your shield. It has the following description:

Thops’s Barrier: Erect a magical force field while swinging the shield to deflect sorceries and incantations. Can also be used in the same way as a regular parry.”

In simple terms, this skill will give you the magical affinity which weakens the weapon’s default scaling but adds Intelligence scaling. Changes to split physical/Magical damage type, whilst the skill allows you to deflect sorceries and incantations with your shield, similarly to parrying.

Ash of War: Spectral Lance

This Ash of War can be found by defeating a Teardrop Scarab on a curved, descending slope in Raya Lucaria Academy. From the Church of the Cuckoo site of grace, go to the end of the courtyard until you see an area guarded by Glintstone Zombies, and Zombie Dogs. From there, turn to your left, and you’ll see a torch-lit path on a curved descending slope with a Teardrop Scarab. Spectral Lance will provide Occult affinity, whilst the skill will throw out a phantasmic spear. It has the following description:

“Spectral Lance: Skill of the headless Mausoleum Knights. Hurl a phantasmic spear at foes.”

In simple terms, this skill will give you the Occult affinity, which weakens the weapon’s default scaling but adds Arcane scaling. It also prevents auto-revival of undead enemies. The skill allows you to hurl out phantasmic spears at the enemy.

Ash of War: Raptor of the Mists

This Ash of War can be found by defeating the Bloody Finger Ravenmount Assassin as part of Yura’s quest line in Raya Lucaria Academy. You can find Yura requesting your help via a red summon sign on the bridge north of the Main Academy Gate site of grace. Raptor of the Mists will provide the Keen affinity whilst the skill will let you vanshish momentarily, and if an attack from an enemy connects with you, you’ll briefly gain avian wings to make a quick escape. It has the following description:

“Raptor of the Mists: Duck into a low stance, momentarily vanishing. If an enemy attack connects, avian wings will allow for a quick escape into the air.”

In simple terms, this skill will give you the Keen affinity, which enhances Dexterity scaling at the expense of all other attributes. The skill allows you some good evasion by giving you brief invisibility, and if an enemy somehow hits you, you’ll jump into the air out of harm. It can be equipped on all melee armaments.

Ash of War: Shield Bash

This Ash of War can be found by defeating a teleporting Teardrop Scarab hanging below the East Gate Bridge site of grace, northeast of Raya Lucaria Academy. Make sure you defeat it quickly, otherwise it’ll disappear. Shield Bash provides Standard affinity and allows you to brace your shield and ram foes whist staying in the Guard Stance. It has the following description:

“Shield Bash: Brace behind shield before using body weight to ram foes while maintaining guarding stance. Weaker enemies will be shoved backwards, and can even be staggered.”

In simple terms, this skill will give you the Standard affinity, which is a neutral state with no affinity. Individual weapons have their own default stat scaling that applies in this case. This skill is a great defensive skill that allows you to hide behind your shield and ram foes whilst staying in the Guard stance. It can be equipped by all types of shields.

Ash of War: Giant Hunt

This Ash of War can be found obtained by defeating the giant knight north of the Converted Fringe Tower in the eastern landmass of Liurnia. Although the Black Knife Catacombs site of grace is near the location, you can’t get there from that site of grace. Instead, follow the path north from the East Raya Lucaria Gate site of grace and head towards the Grand Lift of Dectus. Head southeast from there and go through the Frenzied Village until you reach the Frenzied Flame Village Outskirts site of grace, the head northeast to find the giant.

It’s worth noting that the Frenzied Village has a madness mechanic there. Your build-up gauge fills up, and when the gauge is full you’ll take a significant amount of damage as well as be stunned for a brief moment.

Giant Hunt provides Quality affinity and will step forward and do an upwards thrust. It has the following description:

“Giant Hunt: Skill developed for confronting gigantic foes. Step forward from a low stance, carrying the momentum into a sudden upward thrust.”

In simple terms, this skill will give you the Quality affinity, which slightly enhances and evenly balances Strength and Dexterity scaling at the expense of all other attributes. This skill is great against Giants as it name implies due to the upward thrust. It can be equipped by large and colossal weapons capable of thrusting, spears and twinblades.

Ash of War: Hoarfrost Stomp

This Ash of War can be found obtained by defeating an invisible Teardrop Scarab who can be found in a shallow body of water southeast of Caria Manor. Although it’s invisible you can see its glowing footprints, so attack when you get near them, and you’ll still damage it. Hoarfrost Stomp provides Cold affinity, whilst the skill allows you to stomp on the ground, releasing freezing mist in front of you on the ground. It has the following description:

In simple terms, this skill will give you the Cold affinity, which weakens the weapon’s default scaling but enhances Intelligence scaling. It’ll also add Frostbite build-up to attacks. As you stomp on the ground, freezing mist will cover the ground that builds up the Frostbite status. It can be equipped by all melee armaments.

Lost Ashes of War

Although it isn’t an Ash of War, it allows you to duplicate them when exchanged with Smithing Master Hewg in Roundtable Hold. It has the following description:

“Unable to apply any kind of affinity in their current state, but can be used by Smithing Master Hewg of the Roundtable Hold to recreate other ashes.”

You can find the Lost Ashes of War at the bottom of the water wheel lift on a cliff in Raya Lucaria Academy, near the Schoolhouse Classroom site of grace.
