Information and walkthrough for the Impaler’s Catacombs location in Elden Ring, including details about how to defeat the Erdtree Burial Watchdog and how to obtain the Prattle Pate “Please Help” and the Demi-Human Ashes.

How to Find the Impaler’s Catacombs

To reach the Implaer’s Catacombs, make your way to the Castle Morn Rampart Site of Grace and head uphill to the northeast to reach the top of a plateau. Continue north and you’ll find a crone statue on some rocks overlooking a cliff, which will guide you down to the catacombs. To actually get there, you’ll need to head southeast past some ruins until you find a slope leading down - you’ll know you’re on the right track when you spot some large tombstones, and shortly thereafter, some ethereal jellyfish. The entrance to the Impaler’s Catacombs are along the cliff to the southwest.

How to Complete the Impaler’s Catacombs

Head inside the catacombs and you’ll shortly find the Impaler’s Catacombs Site of Grace. Activate it and continue down some stairs to the southwest, then southwest, but be wary of the pit the stairs encircle. The fall is one thing, but Jade Goblins will crawl from the depths and attack, using either melee attacks (can inflict blood loss), or ranged attacks (rarely including Fire Pots).

Enter a small chamber to the southeast and you’ll spot a sealed door ahead of you. If you’ve explored other catacombs in Limgrave, you should know how this works by now - you need to find a lever to open the doors, beyond which you’ll find a boss. Turn left and go down a passage to the northeast and when you reach a chamber, be wary - a Jade Goblin will stand at the far end of the chamber and toss projectiles at you. He’s just bait, however, as another Jade Goblin lurks on the wall to the northeast, and another will drop from the ceiling.

Defeat the Jade Goblins and continue northeast until you find a fork. If you continue northeast you’ll turn left (northwest) and ultimately reach another small chamber, but aside from some Jade Goblins and some Grave Glovewort, there’s not a whole lot of interest down here.

(1 of 3) Trigger a trap floor, then drop down into the watery chamber below.

To advance, turn right (southeast) at the fork and you’ll find another, larger chamber ahead. The floor is a trap and the ceiling is lined with spikes - no points for guessing how this all operates. Walk onto the floor, then dodge backwards into the tunnel you came from and you can watch the floor rise harmlessly without you, and to continue deeper into the catacombs you’ll need to drop down below the floor while it’s raised. You can spot an alcove to the east, and if you run across the trap floor you should reach it just fine, but your only reward for doing so is a Grave Violet - not worth the effort.

Drop down under the trap floor to find yourself in a watery chamber. Go through a tunnel to the southeast and you’ll reach a larger chamber where a handful of Zombies roam. These are, by all metrics, unworthy foes, but they do have a painful grapple attack and they’ll respawn endlessly, so kill them when you must and avoid them when you can. Search the eastern corner of the first chamber to find the Prattling Pate “Please help”, then work your way southwest, then northwest and climb a ladder to safety.

When you reach the top of the ladder, pull a lever near a statue and continue northwest then southwest (perhaps killing another Jade Goblin as you go) until you find a window. Drop down through it to reach the catacomb’s first chamber - the door to the boss is just to the southeast.

(1 of 3) The Erdtree Burial Watchdog awaits you in the depths of the Impaler’s Catacombs.

Rest up at the nearby Site of Grace if you need to (although this will spawn at least two Jade Goblins you’ll have to fight through), then head through the formerly sealed door to find that familiar wall of mist. Pass through it and you’ll encounter an Erdtree Burial Watchdog, a stronger variant of the same boss you found in the Stormfoot Catacombs. Aside from higher stats, this version of the boss is accompanied by several Jade Goblins, who make this fight significantly more annoying. Summons worked well to distract the first Erdtree Burial Watchdog, and that’s no different here; if anything they’re more useful, as any aggro they pull from you will make it easier for you to seek out and kill the Jade Goblins. Once those are dead, it’s a fairly routine matter of cutting down the Erdtree Burial Watchdog. It’ll drop the Demi-Human Ashes when defeated.
