Matt Chard

This page will tell you everything you need to know about Rykard’s Great Rune including where to find it, how to activate it, and what it does.

Rykard’s Great Rune.

Where to find Rykard’s Great Rune in Elden Ring

Naturally you’ll obtain the Great Rune after defeating the optional Demigod, Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy who is located in Mt Gelmir via Volcano Manor. You’ll have to do the Volcano Manor legacy dungeon to reach him.

Where to activate Rykard’s Great Rune

You can activate the Great Rune in the Divine Tower of West Altus which is situated west of the Leyndell, Royal Capital outskirts. To get here, you’ll have to go through the Sealed Tunnel dungeon. From the Outer Wall Phantom Tree site of grace, head east and follow the rocky platform down to the water. At the bottom, head south, and you’ll find the Sealed Tunnel dungeon to your right.

(1 of 2) Head east from the Outer Wall Phantom Tree site of grace to reach the water, then follow the water south.

As soon as you enter, follow the tunnel until you reach the site of grace. This place is filled with illusory walls which contain many secrets with the first one being actual access to the dungeon. Attack the wall in-between the summoning statue and the torch to reveal the real Sealed Tunnel. There are quite a few miners in here so make sure you have a way to deal damage to them as they are quite resistant to slashing.

As you can see, there is a hidden doorway behind the illusory wall.

In the open area, head southeast, down the path until you see four miners. The miner with the giant pickaxe is aggressive towards you whilst the other three will be passive until they’re attacked. Take the path to the right and follow it until you reach a chest containing the Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing [2]. Attack the wall behind the chest to reveal an elevator. Take the elevator down and follow the tunnel south and attack the wall at the end to reveal a corpse with a Golden Rune [5] on it. Once again, attack the wall behind the corpse to reveal another area with roots sprawling out of the walls.

There are a few ways to go here, but to reach the Divine Tower, you’ll want to take the root and drop to the other root below you to your left. Follow it until you reach the enemy on the wooden platform. As soon as you reach it the enemy will throw a concoction at you that will obscure your vision, and you’ll be ambushed by a few more of them. Fight and defeat them on the wooden platform, and head through the eastern tunnel where you’ll see a bunch of roots blocking your path.

(1 of 2) Drop to the left root below and head over to the wooden platform.

Although it looks blocked, you can get over it. Jump on to the bottom root and walk to the right side of it where you can jump onto the higher root. Be aware of the exploding stone clusters as you drop to the wooden platform below. Head down the southeastern stairs and follow it to what appears to be another dead end. Again, be wary of the exploding stone cluster and attack the wall to another hidden area.

This is the final stretch, slowly ease yourself down the large hole using the roots and stone platforms and when you drop to the bottom there’ll be some more exploding stone clusters. Head through the south doorway where you’ll have a boss fight with the Onyx Lord. Unfortunately you’ll need to defeat it to get to the Divine Tower.

After you’ve defeated the Onyx Lord, ignore the teleporter that’ll send you back to the entrance and instead go through the southern doorway which will lead you outside the Divine Tower of Altus. Activate the site of grace, and head through the double doors and ride the elevator to the top where you can activate Rykard’s Great Rune.

The Divine Tower of West Altus in all its beauty.

What does Rykard’s Great Rune do

Rykard’s Great Rune will heal you upon defeating enemies for approximately 150-200 health. This is a great rune to use in dungeons, especially legacy dungeons where you’ll want to make your flasks last. Unfortunately, it is almost useless against bosses.
