Stonedigger Troll Location in Limgrave

You’ll find the Stonedigger Troll in the depths of the Limgrave Tunnels. It’s not immediately obvious how to reach the boss room, since you need to jump off a moving elevator to reach the tunnel leading to it. We’ve included the gif below to show you exactly how to reach the boss room.

As you’re moving down the elevator to the boss room, you can also loot a Golden Rune and a Somber Smithing Stone if you jump off the elevator onto a ledge, as shown in the gif below.

Attacks

This is one of the easiest bosses in the early game, especially if you’re a magic user. However, it’s easy enough as a melee class once you’ve mastered the timing for dodges. You’ll most likely need to dodge at times here regardless of your class, but it’s much easier if you can inflict ranged damage as you keep to the sides of the room.

Smash Combo

This is a vicious series of attacks which consists of the troll smashing the ground with its weapon four times, before finishing with a massive overhead slam. The overhead slam causes two explosive waves, once when the weapon hits the ground and again when the troll lifts it, so you’ll need to be careful not to be caught by this.

Foot Stomp

This is a simple attack which is frequently used by the boss. It’s easy to avoid once you know how to dodge it. The best time to dodge is just as the foot is raised in the air to its highest point, but be ready to dodge multiple times in a row here, since the boss likes to follow this attack with a club swipe.

Overhead Slam

This is a powerful attack with an incredibly long reach, so you’ll need to be ready to dodge it in time. Moving backwards often won’t cut it here, as evidenced by the gif below.

Strategy

This boss is extremely vulnerable to magic damage, with Magic Glintblade proving particularly effective for our playthrough, but any form of magic will inflict high amounts of damage here. If you can manage to hit the troll in the head, you’ll stun it for a few seconds, giving you a window of opportunity to land some additional ranged or melee damage without fear of retaliation.

If you’re a melee based class, you’ll find that the boss is more resistant to your attacks. However, he still has a relatively small amount of health, so it shouldn’t take long to bring him down. The only potential disadvantage as a melee user is that you’ll need to be confident in dodging the boss attacks, since you’ll be within range of them more often. An interesting thing to note and a useful tactic to employ regardless of class is that if you an goad the troll into hitting the sides of the room, he’ll stun himself for a few seconds, giving you time to land a few hits.

As a magic user you’ll want to stick to the sides of the room as you keep the troll within your sights. It won’t take many spells to inflict enough damage to kill him, so if you can keep your distance and avoid his most deadly combos with dodging if he gets to close, this fight should be a breeze. As noted above, a melee user will need to be more careful when avoiding the attacks, and it’ll require a bit more concentration to dodge consecutive hits within melee range. The relatively low health on the boss means that you won’t need to keep this up for too long, so long as you’re consistently inflicting damage. However, try not to get too greedy and know when it’s time to stop attacking and start moving, as indicated by incoming attack animations. There isn’t much more to this boss. It should be one of the easiest in the early game, but if you are struggling you can always come back later with better defences.

Be ready to dodge only when the foot is raised in the air, just before he stomps down (left), Try not to dodge too soon when the troll is preparing an overhead slam. Instead, wait for the club to be coming down. (right)
