First Meeting - Warmaster’s Shack¶
To begin his quest, you will first have to find Knight Bernahl in the Warmaster’s Shack (an appropriate name for his role) in the Stormhill region of Limgrave. The journey to the Shack is rather perilous as you must pass along the main road from the Gatefront Ruins, through Stormgate all the while dodging the troll and numerous soldiers. If that wasn’t enough, you must then pass through a dense forest, blanketed in a thick fog and teeming with wolves, some of whom drop out of trees. Yes, really. The howls will follow you all the way there and so you will be relieved when you finally see the golden light of the Site of Grace and the shack itself.

Go into the shack to find Knight Bernahl who will ask you whether your faith still holds firm. Respond affirmatively and you will gain access to his Ashes of War shop.

Second Meeting - Recusant Bernahl¶
Once you progress further into Altus Plateau, you’ll eventually reach Volcano Manor in Mt. Gelmir. Once there, you will meet Tanith and once you agree to join the Recusants, she’ll hand over the [Drawing-Room Key](Drawing-Room Key “Drawing-Room Key”) that you can use to open the rooms down the west corridor where you’ll find Rya, a man clad in Armor and Diallos should you have progressed his Quest far enough. You’ll also find your first assassination contract on the table, complete this and then return to Tanith to have her issue the second, also found on the table.

Speak the man in armor after your first contract is over and he’ll reintroudce himself as Recusant Bernahl, the very same Knight you first met back in Limgrave. Be sure to exhaust his dialogue and then go and carry out the second assassination contract. This time, after receiving your reward from Tanith, speak to Bernahl and he will hand over Letter to Bernhal, asking if you can assist him with the contracts.
Third Meeting - Leyndell, Royal Capital¶
You must now head to the Fortified Manor Site of Grace in Leyndell, Royal Capital to undertake the assassination contract that Bernahl gave you, this is located to the far west of the capital. Drop down to the ground floor and you’ll find a red summon sign, use it to invade the targets of Bernahl’s contract. You’ll be up against Vargram the Raging Wolf and Errant Sorcerer Wilhelm although you will have Bernahl with you, allowing you to gang up on one at a time. Once the deed is done, return to Bernahl at the Volcano Manor and he’ll hand over the Gelmir’s Fury Sorcery for aiding him in his task.
Fourth Meeting - Volcano Manor¶
Speak to Bernahl after defeating Rykard.
Proceed through the events at Volcano Manor until you meet and defeat the Lord of the Manor, Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. Doing this will cause the end of Volcano Manor and you’ll find Recusant Bernahl in his usual spot, speak with him and he’ll remark that now is the time to move on.
Final Meeting - Crumbling Farum Azula¶
You’ll have to wait until you reach the penultimate area in the game before you can see out Bernahl’s final event. Proceed through the area until you reach the Beside the Great Bridge Site of Grace and head up the stairs to the main path. Head along the path to the north and you’ll reach a balcony where you’ll find a ladder leading down to the south. As you take this down, you will encounter Knight Bernahl at the end of the path.

Be sure to pull Bernahl back as there is an ambush of Beastman in the room behind him. Bernahl will deal a lot of damage with all of his attacks and he has an Ash of War that can hit a large area so take it slow, don’t get greedy with hits and you’ll eventually wear him down. Once he’s defeated, you’ll obtain the Blasphemous Claw, Devourer’s Scepter, and the Beast Champion Set.
