Where to find Malenia’s Great Rune in Elden Ring¶
Naturally you’ll obtain the Great Rune after defeating the optional Demigod, Malenia, Blade of Miquella who is located in the secret area Elphael, Brace of Haligtree which is part of Miquella’s Haligtree. You’ll have to do the entire legacy dungeon to reach her. You can find out how to defeat her by following our guide here.
Where to activate Malenia’s Great Rune¶
You can activate the Great Rune in the Isolated Divine Tower which is situated in the middle of the ocean southeast of Leyndell, Royal City. You can get there a couple of ways (since the update), Tower of Return or Roundtable Hold (Leyndell).
Tower of Return Route¶
The easiest way is through a teleporter chest at the top of the tower aptly named Tower of Return which can be accessed in the southwest of Weeping Peninsula. Teleport to the Isolated Merchant’s Shack site of grace and head southeast until you see the tower. Climb it to the top where a chest will be ominously waiting for you to open. Upon opening the chest, you’ll be transported to the Divine Bridge in Leyndell, Royal City.
Head up the southwestern stairs, activate the Divine Bridge site of grace and go past the large stone golem. The golem will get up and attack you, but you can just run to the left where you’ll find a teleporter. Activate the teleporter, and you’ll be outside the Isolated Divine Tower. Open the doors and take the elevator to the top and activate Malenia’s Great Rune.

Roundtable (Leyndell) Route.¶
The other way to get to the Isolated Divine Tower is by heading to the original Roundtable Hold in Leyndell, Royal City which is situated inside the Leyndell Legacy Dungeon. From the Fortified Manor site of grace, head back to the main large hallway and open the double doors. Follow the corridors northwest until you can enter the courtyard with the Abductor Virgins (iron maidens). In the courtyard head southwest and you’ll find an elevator that takes you up to the Divine Bridge. Once again, activate the site of grace, run past the golem, and take the teleporter to your left.

What does Malenia’s Great Rune do¶
Malenia’s Great Rune allows you to recover a portion of health by attacking the enemy after taking damage. The amount that can be recovered is indicated by a lighter red bar. This is very similar to Bloodborne’s battle mechanics. The cost of all this is that your Crimson Tear Flasks will heal less. This is a great rune if you have an aggressive play style.
