By
Craig Robinson

The Arisen’s Shadow is a side quest that takes place in "Vernworth" iconVernworth once you have started completing Brant’s main story quests. As part of the quest, you’ll need to monitor for a suspicious person running around the city, dressed in rather suspicious rogue-like clothing. If you chase this person down, you’ll have some choices to make about how you wish to complete the quest. Here’s a closer look at "The Arisen's Shadow" iconThe Arisen’s Shadow quest in "Dragon" iconDragon’s Dogma 2, featuring explanations of the choices.

Arisen’s Shadow Walkthrough in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To complete The Arisen’s Shadow Quest, players will need to look for the mysterious figure running around Vernworth. You can often find the person during the daytime, particularly after leaving the guild hall, the player house, or the Inn. They’ll more often than not start running around the market square once they enter your line of sight.

To apprehend him, you must chase after them, so make sure your weight capacity is at least Average. Otherwise, you won’t be able to catch up to them with the speed you run at.

When you get close to them, make sue you run and grapple them using the jump and hold ability. This will send them to the floor with your Arisen’s chad legs pinning them to the ground. After a moment, you should get a cutscene where the mysterious man gives you a few dialogue options to ask what is going on. Now you’re clued in as to what is happening, you can then make some choices on how to proceed with the remainder of the quest. The choices for The Arisen’s Shadow will align with the way the quest is completed, alongside different rewards.

Arisen’s Shadow Choices Explained: Let him go or refuse his offer?

You have two choices to complete the Arisen’s Shadow quest: let him go or refuse his offer. You will receive different rewards and outcomes depending on which one you choose.

  1. Accept his gold
  2. Refuse his gold

When you apprehend the pursuer, you can choose to accept his 5000 gold bribe or to refuse it.

If you accept his gold, then you will get the following rewards:

  • 5000 G
  • 1000 XP

The quest will then end and there, with the NPC disappearing entirely.

Refusing his Gold Choice in Arisen’s Shadow

However, if you choose not to accept the gold, you will fight with the spy.

While fighting the spy, Captain Brant should make his way down to you, which may depend on where he is at the time. Typically, he stays inside "The Guardhouse" iconThe Guardhouse building next to the Northern Vernworth Oxcart. Try not to kill him, and keep your pawns away from combat as they like to help speed up his untimely demise.

To make it easier, we recommend you continue grappling and throwing the spy around until Brant arrives. That way, you reduce the risk of him dying and can stall the fight out for as long as you can till Brant arrives. Feel free to carry the spy towards Brant’s direction to speed things up.

If you refuse the money choice in Arisen’s Shadow, you will need to detain the spy and wait until Captain Brant has time to interrogate him.

When Brant takes him, meet Brant at the pub at night, and you can ask him about the spy. He will tell you he is using interrogation methods on him to extract more information. Eventually, he’ll tell you who he is and what he is up to, and you can complete the quest that way.

Completing the quest this way will grant you the following rewards.

  • 1000 XP
  • 4000 G

As it stands, it doesn’t seem like the quest alters the main storyline. So, if you’re looking for the best possible reward, then taking the spy’s gold is the best choice in Arisen’s Shadow. If you’re looking for possible ending differences or playing a good character, then Brant’s option is likely the better option. And there you have it: You now know how to complete The Arisen’s Shadow in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the choice you want to make.
