Dragon's Dogma 2

Finding and Beating Imposters Guide

By
Matt Chard

While traversing the expansive world of "Dragon" iconDragon’s Dogma 2 you may encounter a group of bandits who appear to be a lot stronger than the regular kind. It turns out that these enemies are called Imposters. Imposters roam around the world claiming to be an Arisen, hence the Imposter name. This rag-tag group is a lot stronger than the regular bandit-types, and can easily defeat you if you’re at a lower level. Although they look like bandits, they’re NPCs who are not hostile to you, but if you do defeat them, they can yield decent experience points. Read on to find out where you can find Imposters, if you should fight them, and if so, how you can defeat them.

Imposter Locations

So far, we’ve only found two locations that have an Imposter. The first one can be found near the "Eastern Forest" iconEastern Forest, situated east of "Vernworth" iconVernworth. Exit Vernworth via the northeastern gate, and follow the path over the first bridge. Continue northeast until you reach another bridge that leads southeast, and then follow either the north or south path east to go over one final bridge. The group will roam the area in this general location. Note, the Imposter is only one of the group, with the others acting like pawns.

The second Imposter requires you to travel near "Sacred Arbor" iconSacred Arbor. Unless you have a "Portcrystal" iconPortcrystal there, you will need to take a long walk from Vernworth by exiting via the northwestern gate. Continue along the path, and you’ll reach an intersection with a smaller path. Stay on the larger path that goes north, and you’ll reach another intersection. Take the northwestern road and stay on it until you reach the intersection near the river, where you can go either west or east. Take the western path and follow it until you reach one more intersection, and then take the small path south, where you’ll find a campfire where the Imposter and their group will be.

Should you Fight the Imposters?

You will get some good XP and DCP for defeating them, as they yield between 1100 - 1400 XP and 100 DCP for each member, of which there are four. When it comes to how important they are to the game, they appear on the NPC Logbook as an NPC, while the Imposter will appear on the Adventure Logbook under Enemies Felled after you defeat them. Once defeated, you cannot revive them at the morgue, at least, we couldn’t, and we haven’t come across any quests related to them, so outside of killing them, we don’t see any other reason for them to exist other than the relatively good XP and DCP they give you. Although we haven’t found another reason for the Imposter to exist, we will test everything we can with them, and if anything changes, we’ll update this page with the new information.

Defeating the Imposter and their group yields 1100-1400 XP for each enemy.

How to Defeat the Imposters

The Imposters and their groups act similarly to how you and your pawns would act. If you want an easy way to defeat them there isn’t much you can do other than being a higher level with level 30 looking like the sweet spot. Depending on what type of weapons the group has, you’ll want to focus on taking down the "Thief" iconThief (Daggers) enemies first, followed by the "Sorcerer" iconSorcerers (Archistaff) as they are your biggest threats. With those enemies felled, the rest should be relatively easy, although, don’t underestimate the "Warrior" iconWarriors (Greatsword). For your attacks, Thief’s "Skull Splitter" iconSkull Splitter, "Magick Archer" iconMagick Archer’s "Martyr's Bolt" iconMartyr’s Bolt, and Sorcerer’s "Meteoron" iconMeteoron or "Maelstrom" iconMaelstrom will pretty much one-shot the group.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the long-awaited sequel to a predecessor that gained a cult following for its quirky pawns and charming jank, not to mention the diverse combat options that came with access to several unique vocations. All of that and more is expanded upon with DD2, while some of the mechanics have been simplified to make them more accessible, but still retaining that unapologetic focus on rewarding exploration at the heart of its gameplay. You are the Arisen, fated to confront the Dragon’s Dogma, and the initial path you take is a familiar one to those who played the original, but you’ll soon find that there’s more to this story than meets the eye. In this guide, we cover the following:
