Dragon's Dogma 2

How Fast Travel Works

By
Echo Apsey

Dragon’s Dogma 2 isn’t the easiest game for newcomers to RPGs or if you are new to the series generally. For example, being able to travel abround the map is incredibly dangerous and if you venture out you will need to find your way back to a town or campfire to rest and heal. But, there are a few methods of fast travel in "Dragon" iconDragon’s Dogma 2, although they are obscure and don’t behave as you would expect.

So, to help you out as you begin your journey as the Arisen we have broken down both methods below, how they work, and given you some pointers on how to make the most of them.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 fast travel explained

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has two methods of fast travel. The first is by Oxcart which takes you between main towns and cities in Vermund and Battahl. The second method of fast travel involves using a "Ferrystone" iconFerrystone to teleport to a "Portcrystal" iconPortcrystal located in one of the towns on the map or where you have placed a Portcrystal of your own.

Both of these methods are extremely restrictive and only allow you to fast travel between a handful of main locations areas on the map, mostly in Vermund as Battahl has very few Oxcart stops or Portcrystals. Small side villages, quest locations, ruins in rural areas, and unique fights like "Medusa" iconMedusa and the "Sphinx" iconSphinx don’t offer any fast travel options by default, unless you place a Portcrystal near them. However, Portcrystals are extremely rare and expensive, so you won’t be able to find more than a dozen in your playthrough at most.

How to fast travel by Oxcart in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To fast travel by Oxcart, all you need to do is visit an Oxcart stop in "Melve" iconMelve, Venworth, the "Checkpoint Rest Town" iconCheckpoint Rest Town and "Bakbattahl" iconBakbattahl. Wait by the sign until the morning if it isn’t already the morning and you will be able to board the next oxcart that leaves after paying a small amount of Gold.

Oxcarts are not instant fast-travel methods however. Unless you choose to doze off, you will have to sit there for the entire ride (which can last upwards of 30 minutes in some cases). And, if you do doze off on your seat, the cart can be attacked in the middle of its journey, which your character will wake up to. You will need to defend the cart and kill the enemies before it will set off again. If the cart gets knocked over, it will become stuck and you will have to trek to your destiation on foot.

Providing you have a Ferrystone in your inventory, you can use it and a menu will come up, allowing you to travel to any of the Portcrystals you have discovered. There are a few set ones in Venworth and "Harve Village" iconHarve Village. However, the rest you will need to place in custom locations depending on where you want them to be once you are in possession of a Portcrystal item.

(1 of 2) If you’re able to seek out Ferrystones

If you’re able to seek out Ferrystones (left), you can then use them to fast travel to any of the Portcrytals you’ve interacted with. (right)

Ideally, you want to place at least one in Bakbattal, one in the north of Vermund and then an additional one on the Volcanic Island in the south at a minimum. However, it is your choice if you want to place them in other locations as it allows you to customize your fast travel points for your playthrough.

That covers everything you need to know to get around Vermund and Battahl in Dragon’s Dogma 2. For even more on the map, be sure to take a look at our in-depth, thorough Dragon’s Dogma 2 world map.
