Dragon's Dogma 2

Ancient Battlefield Walkthrough: Rewards, Quests & More

By
Craig Robinson

The Ancient Battlefield in "Dragon" iconDragon’s Dogma 2 is an area to the very northwest of Vermund that players can travel to for lots of loot, rewards, and more. There are even a few quests here, along with items used as part of various quests throughout the game. This guide will take you through the Ancient Battlefield, showcasing all the good loot you can get your hands on, missable areas, and other important parts of the dungeon.

Ancient Battlefield Walkthrough

So, you’re going to the Ancient Battlefield. Well, the important thing to note is that the Battlefield is a large open space, with more indoor areas and an upper castle area. Let’s start with the outdoor area first.

The first thing you need to know about the Ancient Battlefield’s outdoor area is that there is one "Seeker's Token" iconSeeker’s Token located under the ballista mount on the western entrance. You will need to go up the main road leading to the castle, and place blocks in the trebuchet four times to destroy the opening. You can then go to the area and then loot the Seeker’s Token if you so wish.

(1 of 2) Use the Trebuchet on the road to the Ancient Battlefield Castle to destroy a boulder to get a Seeker’s Token.

Be aware that the route between this trebuchet contains a few bosses. Depending on when you turn up to the area, you can find a "Cyclops" iconCyclops. If you’re much later in the game, you’ll have to fight a "Drake" iconDrake. So, it is something to be wary of.

There are a few more bosses and Seeker’s Tokens knocking around the outside area too. Move towards the eastern part of the Ancient Battlefield outer-bounds area and follow the road below the wall. You should see a gap in the wall you can climb up. There’s sometimes a Cyclops there, and if you move your way to a broken tower on the right, there’s another Seeker’s Token inside the ruined tower.

We also recommend going to the eastern entrance to the Ancient Battlefield. When you’re on the road leading to the marker that shows you enter the area, you should find an NPC called Oskar under attack from Redwolves. Save him, and you should get a quest called Tolled To Rest, which is important for 100% completing the Ancient Battlefield for its loot. Get the quest, and it should start an escort quest leading to the castle part of the area.

Ancient Battlefield - Castle

When it comes to the castle part of the map, there are two notable sections. The upper part, and the lower part. The lower part is where you enter via the main door, and the general indoor area of the castle.

Enter the castle and deal with the Skeleton spawns inside.

To progress through the castle, you will need to enter via the main road. Take care of the spawning "Skeleton" iconSkeleton enemies, and then go through a ruined tower, climb out, and then dip back in via another ladder to the east of the main gate. This will allow you to drop into another area, open a door to create a shortcut, and fight more skellies. When you’re done, you’ll have a few chests to loot for standard meals and potion rewards. When you progress further up the corridor, you will get a room on your right at the end that leads you to a Cenotaph. The Cenotaph has a bell on it, which is where the Oskar escort quest NPC needs to go to complete the Tolled To Rest quest.

In the same room, you can take a "Nation's Death Knell" iconNation’s Death Knell book Map Marker, which is used for The Sorcerer’s Appraisal and the Spellbound Side Quests for the Vocation masters of "Mage" iconMage and "Sorcerer" iconSorcerer. There’s also another chest to the side of the room, which awards the "Makeshift Vault Key" iconMakeshift Vault Key Map Marker. You can use this in the "Vernworth" iconVernworth City to open a way into the Vault for fat stacks. You can read more about the Vernworth Vault and how to avoid the guard here.

(1 of 2) Players can find the Nation’s Death Knell, among other good loot inside the Ancient Battlefield Castle.

When you complete the Tolled To Rest quest, you can enter the locked door further down the corridor. Use the key to open the door, and inside you’ll get two more "Unique Chest" iconUnique Chests. One contains a "Ferrystone" iconFerrystone Map Marker, and some gold, with the other containing the "Infernal Edge" iconInfernal Edge, a high fire status effect Duospear for the "Mystic Spearhand" iconMystic Spearhand Map Marker.

Ancient Battlefield Castle - 2F

Now you’re done inside, you can venture to the top of the castle. The rewards up here are a few weapons for "Warrior" iconWarriors, alongside some more Seeker Tokens and other valuables.

There is a Cyclops atop of the castle, guarding great Warrior gear, among Seeker Tokens and other valuables.

Let us start with the elephant in the room, or rather the Cyclops. The armored Cyclops is asleep at the top and center of the castle, which you can beat. Doing so will award the "Meloirean Cyclops Veil" iconMeloirean Cyclops Veil, a strong helmet for Warriors Map Marker. Behind the Cyclops is a chest that awards the "Black Matter" iconBlack Matter, which is again another great weapon for Warriors (Map Marker).

Now, for the rest of the stuff around you, there’s some loot along the scaffolding, a Seeker Token between the wall on your left Map Marker , and another Seeker’s Token in the ruined tower on the southwest side of the keep Map Marker. There are also some parkour challenges if you go up that tower, glide across the woodwork, and then jump from tower to tower. There’s a chest that gives an "Onyx" iconOnyx, "Jasper" iconJasper and "Tiger Eye" iconTiger Eye for example Map Marker. If you go the tower to the southwest just away from the Cyclops boss, you’ll find Wyrmslife at the top of it Map Marker.

(1 of 2) Look left of the now-fallen Cyclops, and you should find a small gap between two walls for a Seeker’s Token.

Look left of the now-fallen Cyclops, and you should find a small gap between two walls for a Seeker’s Token. (left), To the southeast tower, you’ll find a Seeker Token at the bottom, along other parkour routes there to earn loot around the Ancient Battlefield Castle. (right)

Also, there’s a pathway that leads to the "Worldsend Cavern" iconWorldsend Cavern. There is another Seeker Token inside that cave Map Marker alongside more loot for you to get if you want to. This pathway leads to the Ancient Ruin, and then if you follow it to the end, it takes you to Sphinx, where you can complete puzzles.

This should summarize all there is to know about the Ancient Battlefield in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Good luck getting your new and fancy weapons, armor, and ticking off even more of your Seeker Token needs.
