Civil Unrest is a post-game quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This quest is for the evacuation of the people of Bakbattahl. You’ll get this quest by speaking to Menella along the path toward the Flambearer Palace, near the pillar of light. Before she can evacuate the people, she’ll ask if you can help quell the unrest among some of her people. Read on to find out which choices you should select for each situation to get the best outcome.
Civil Unrest Quest Location¶
You’ll get the quest from Menella who can be found on the main path toward the Flamebearer Palace in Bakbattahl. She’ll be around the corner from the Inn, near the ominous pillar of light. As you approach her, you’ll find a couple of civilians having an argument which she interrupts. Head over to the commotion and speak to Menella who will tell you about the unrest between some citizens. Before she’ll evacuate, she wants to fix any unrest first so they don’t cause any trouble later on. Note that you should start the Hall of the First Dawn quest at the Seafloor Shrine first as that is the place they’ll be evacuating to. If you don’t do it first, you’ll need to come back after you have accepted the quest anyway to send them there, although you can still complete the quest now.
Residential Ward Dispute - Grantt vs Abba¶
This dispute can be found in the streets between the Rare Book Stand and Fulvio’s Workshop. A Beastren and a Human will get into a heated argument…until you interrupt them, which leads to the pair turning around and letting their anger out on you. There are a few ways to handle this dispute: Run around or defend with a shield while you get attacked until they have enough, or attack them yourself, with the latter being dubbed as the violent method by the game.
Bakbattahl Bazaar Dispute - Glint vs Nomos¶
You’ll find this dispute in the streets between Avaran’s Arms and the Pilgrims’ Inn - Flagship. As you approach them, you’ll get a choice of three options: The human is wrong, the beastren is wrong, neither of you are wrong. Select the bottom option and speak to the children nearby to give each of them a piece of food, which will end the dispute on good terms.
Bakbattahl Vocation Guild Dispute - Nabrah vs Scario - The Duel¶
The last dispute can be found outside the Vocation Guild. Scario questions Nabrah’s honor, saying she only got where she was because of her father. Nabrah will then offer Scario a duel to prove her skill and retake her honor. They’ll ask you to bear witness to the duel, which will leave you with three choices: Ask what the duel is about, agree to bear witness, decline to bear witness. You can select the first option if you’re interested in what caused this commotion, but make sure you agree to bear witness to the duel to keep them safe. All you need to do now is sit back, and enjoy the duel. When they’re finished, they’ll respect each other and the dispute will end.
Head back to Menella¶
Make your way back to Menella near the Flamebearer Palace and tell her that you’ve resolved the conflicts. Depending on how you manage them, you’ll get a reward. With that problem sorted, Menella will tell you to speak to Empress Nadinia in the palace. Don’t worry if she dies during the main game, she’ll be back! Head to the Flamebearer Palace and go to her chambers in the northeast. Vera will tell you that she’s busy right now, but you can ignore her and enter the room anyway. The Empress will thank you for your help and the quest will be completed.
Depending on how you handle the tasks you’ll be rewarded with 20,000 XP, 10-20,000 G, 35x Wyrmslife Crystals, and an Allheal Elixir if you settle the disputes amicably. If you haven’t been to the Seafloor Shrine yet, you’ll need to come back here to get them to evacuate after you’ve been there.
