Nightingale

How to Craft Steel Blades – Nightingale

By
Scott Peers

Steel Blades are among the most important resources that you can craft in Nightingale, but you won’t really need them until you reach the endgame content. At this stage, you’ll need to craft the Excellent-level crafting stations, which are equivalent to tier 3 (whereas Refined are T2 and Simple are T1). One of the most important crafting stations that requires Steel Blades is the Excellent Saw Table, and you’ll need to craft this first before you can craft the others since it produces the Gilded Lumber that you’ll need for them. On this page, we’ll show you how to craft Steel Blades as quickly as possible in Nightingale.

The Blacksmith’s Hearth is required before you can craft any Steel Blades in Nightingale.

Build the Blacksmith’s Hearth

The first thing you need to do before you can craft Steel Blades is build the Blacksmith’s Hearth in your base. This is essentially an upgraded version of the Brazier, and it will give you access to a bunch of new recipes that are required for T3 crafting. Be sure to visit an Essence Trader in an Ascended Forest Provisioner realm for the Blacksmith’s Hearth recipe, or you can visit the Miscellaneous Essence Trader at The Watch and purchase it there using T3 Essence. If you want to learn more about The Watch and how to get T3 Essence, check our The Watch Guide page.

Once you have the recipe for the Blacksmith’s Hearth, you’ll need the following resources to build it:

  • x10 Etched Iron Ingots

  • x3 Shaft

  • x1 Hammer Head

  • X2 Metal Tip

Iron Ore and Coal Locations

The Shafts, Hammer Head, and Metal Tips can be crafted easily enough using any type of ingot, but you’ll need to get Iron Ore specifically for the Etched Iron Ingots. Unfortunately, Iron Ore deposits are quite rare, so you may find yourself searching for them for longer than you might expect. The best place to find Iron Ore is in Swamp realms, especially around the coasts or around wet marshlands, but you’ll also find a lot of Zinc Ore deposits at the same time. There’s no way around the grind that is finding Iron Ore in Nightingale; you just have to keep moving and hope for the best, while checking every deposit that you come across.

In addition to Iron Ore, you’ll need to get a decent stack of coal if you want to make Steel Ingots from the Blacksmith’s Hearth. You can find plenty of coal in desert regions, especially in caves, so be on the lookout for those. Read our How to Get Coal page if you need more help with that.

Crafting Steel Ingots and Steel Blades

Once you have plenty of Iron Ore and Coal (don’t come away without at least 80 of each if you want to save time later), you can return to your base and build the Blacksmith’s Hearth, which will give you access to the recipe for Steel Ingots. You can now craft one Steel Ingot using x2 Iron Ore and x2 Coal, then use the Steel Ingots to craft Metal Plates (Steel), which you can finally use to produce Steel Blades. Note that there’s no specific recipe for Steel Blades in your recipe list – you just need to select your steel Metal Plates when crafting regular blades.

You need x2 Iron Ore and x2 Coal for each Steel Ingot, x3 Steel Ingots for each Metal Plate, and then x2 Metal Plates for each Steel Blade. So, in total, you need 12 Iron Ore and 12 Coal for each Steel Blade. Keep this in mind whenever you’re out looking for ore and coal to make sure that you bring enough back for your crafting objectives!

Nightingale is a PvE open-world survival crafting game with a few unique features for the genre. First among these is the Realm Card system, whereby players can discover and craft Major or Minor realm cards to influence aspects of procedurally generated worlds or character attributes respectively. You may find yourself in a more forgiving or hostile world depending on the Major cards you use, but the Minor cards can give you an edge against foes with boosts to damage, health, stamina, or other aspects of survival. The game is set in the Victorian era and has more than a little influence from Steampunk fiction, so if that’s anything like your thing, you’ll love this world!
