This is a guide for defeating Iono, the Electric Gym Leader, during her rematch in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
How to Rematch Iono¶
Sorry, we’re on a mission here…
You can rematch Iono after completing the Area Zero story (after seeing the credits roll) and visiting the Director’s Office at Naranja/Uva Academy. Geeta will ask you to visit the eight gyms of Paldea in her place, as part of an inspection. During this time, you can challenge the gym leaders at their full power!
Recommended Pokémon for Iono During Her Rematch¶
Iono is still a whiz with Electric types, so we recommend bringing a couple of Ground types.
Her Pokémon are all Level 65-66, so your Pokémon should be Level 65+ to match.
If you’re looking for some ideas to embarrass her on stream, here are some ideas:
- The Level 75 Tera
Dragonite at the far eastern edge of Paldea. High Level with exceptional Attack. You can teach it
Earthquake with the TM from Cascarrafa.
- The Level 75 Tera
Lucario at Dalizapa Passage, in the underground tunnel. High Level and a good all-rounder. Can also learn Earthquake.
- Ting-Lu, a Ground type Legendary found in one of the sealed shrines.
- Baxcalibur, a powerful Dragon and Ice type, which you can evolve from Arctibax caught at Glaseado Mountain. Strong and can resist most of Iono’s Pokémon.
Haxorus, a powerful Dragon type, which you can evolve from
Fraxure, native to North Province (Area One). Especially one with the Mold Breaker ability.

Kilowattrel¶
Tailwind can help Kilowattrel in two ways.
Iono has evolved her Wattrel. It can now use Discharge and Hurricane for STAB, Quick Attack to try and attack first and
Tailwind to boost its party’s Speed for 4 turns. Its Wind Power ability boosts its next Electric move when hit by a wind-based move, such as Tailwind.
Rock types are recommended, since they’re super-effective and resist Hurricane. Ice types are also good, but they don’t resist anything. If you’re worried about Discharge, you could use a Ground type as long as they have other moves they can use.
Bellibolt¶
Bellibolt is back for another round. This time, it’s got Thunder for STAB,
Water Pulse to soak Ground types,
Reflect to weaken your physical moves and Sucker Punch to try and attack first, if you’re using an attacking move.
Only Ground types are super-effective, but you’ll need to be cautious of Water Pulse. If unsure, try fielding a Grass or Dragon type, to resist Thunder and Water Pulse.
Electrode¶
Fielding your own Electric type could also work, depending on their moves.
Electrode is a new addition to Iono’s team. It’s carrying Discharge for STAB,
Electric Terrain to generate a terrain effect that boosts the Electric moves of Pokémon touching the ground, while preventing sleep, Magnet Rise to lift itself off the ground and
Foul Play to deal damage based on its opponent’s Attack stat.
Again, only Ground types are super effective. But be wary as Electrode is fast and if it uses Magnet Rise, it’ll gain the Levitate ability, which confers immunity to Ground moves. If this happens, you can try and counter it with a resistant Grass or Dragon type.
Luxray¶
Iono has also evolved her Luxio. It can now use
Wild Charge for STAB,
Ice Fang to penetrate Ground types, plus
Crunch and
Psychic Fangs for additional coverage. Its Intimidate ability will lower your Attack when it enters the field.
Since Luxray is another pure Electric type, only Ground types are super effective. If you only have one Ground type and you’re fighting on equal footing, this can be a little rough on them. Especially if they’re a physical attacker and because of Ice Fang.
If playing Violet, Iron Treads is a Ground type that takes neutral damage from Ice Fang. If you want to brute force it, Baxcalibur is a good option. Its typing resists Wild Charge and takes neutral damage from Ice Fang. It can also learn the Earthquake TM (from Cascarrafa) or you could gamble with Glaive Rush.
Terastallized Mismagius¶
Lucario isn’t the best choice here, but if it’s high Level enough, it could work.
Oh no, it’s the troublesome Mismagius again. Like last time, Iono will Terastallize it into an Electric type, leaving it with no weakness because of its Levitate ability. Attack-wise, it has
Charge Beam for Electric STAB,
Shadow Ball for Ghost STAB, plus Mystical Fire and
Dazzling Gleam for general coverage.
At this point, you have more options to choose from. For example, you could have Haxorus with Mold Breaker learn the Earthquake TM; Mold Breaker ignores abilities like Levitate. Otherwise, you can brute force it with ridiculous Pokémon like Koraidon or Miraidon.
