Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Shiny Tree Farming Method

By
Jessica Dillon

Shiny Hunting is incredibly different in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. Instead of just hoping to run into a shiny, you can use sandwiches and mass outbreaks to greatly increase your chances. This has led to many different shiny hunting methods appearing, many of which can even target certain Pokemon, like Fluttermane. If you are looking for a shiny Pokemon, like "Applin" IconApplin, then there is a special farming method to get shiny Pokemon that spawn in trees. Below we go over how to farm Shiny Pokemon from trees.

Farming Koala in Tagtree Thicket.

How to Farm Trees in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet

You may not know it, but Pokemon actually spawn in trees in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet. To get a Pokemon out of a tree, you will need to dash into it using your legendary mount. Once you do, the Pokemon will dash out of the tree, and you can engage it in battle if you choose. If you want to farm tree drops, then simply send out a Pokemon using the Let’s Go feature, and they should continue to fall out of the tree.

To use dash, you will need to beat the Stony Cliff Titan (Klawf) on the Legends Path.

How to Farm Shiny Pokemon From Trees

To Shiny Farm tree in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, you will want to set up a picnic and use a Sparkling Sandwich. For this method, you will need to target the type of Pokemon you want to shiny hunt for. Here are all the Pokemon that spawn in trees.

The key is to find an isolated tree with not many Pokemon spawning around it and use a Sparkling "Sandwich" iconSandwich to force the Pokemon to continuously spawn and fall out of the tree. Don’t worry about your Pokemon defeating a shiny, as Let’s Go mode is coded not to knock out shinies. Instead, your Pokemon will stop attacking, clueing you in on the fact that a shiny has appeared. A great place to use this method is the Tagtree Thicket.

Zorua and Applin are especially easy to farm in this area thanks to their unique typing. Zorua will appear disguised as another Pokemon, so don’t panic that Spidops are falling out of the tree after using your sandwich. Be sure to save before starting this process just in case you have limited sandwiches, or something goes wrong in the process.

How Long Does Shiny Farming Take?

This depends on your luck, but generally, you will find a shiny using this method within a few thirty-minute segments. Thirty minutes is the amount of time each sandwich works. The best thing you can do is settle in and let your Pokemon do the work. Once the shiny spawns, they will stop attacking, and you can easily catch them. It’s best to put on an episode of a TV show or go AFK and set an alarm for 30 minutes when using this method.

Keep in mind that you are only really going to be able to actively farm one tree at a time, and it does take a bit for each Pokemon to spawn and fall down. This makes this method much slower than shiny farming a mass outbreak. If you get lucky enough for a mass outbreak to happen with a tree-spawning Pokemon like an Applin, be sure to take advantage of this event.
