Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Ditto Egg Group

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page offers information on breeding "Ditto" IconDitto at picnics in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to Breed with Ditto

Ditto is a Pokémon that is often hard to find because it can assume the appearance of other Pokémon. If you do manage to find and catch one, Ditto is unique in the fact that it can breed with any Pokémon from any "Egg Group" iconEgg Group (except the No "Egg" iconEgg group)!

All you’ll need to do to breed with a Ditto is pop it in your team and set up a picnic. You’ll then need to wait until an egg appears in the basket by the picnic table. If you want it to breed with a specific Pokémon, you’ll want to remove all the other Pokémon from your team. Breeding can sometimes be quite a waiting game but you can do some other stuff to speed things along and increase your chances of finding an egg! Head over to our guide on How to Breed Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet.

How to Find Dittos

Dittos are quite tough to find but there are a couple of things you can do to help during the hunt.

  1. Lock on - By pressing in Joy-Con-ZL you can see the name and level of a Pokémon above them. If it’s a ditto it’ll say Ditto above its head, not the name of the Pokémon it’s disguised as!

  2. Odd behaviour - if you spot a Pokémon that would typically be quite hostile or skittish acting suspiciously neutral, it might be a Ditto!

  3. Tera Raids - you can find Dittos in tera raids! Before you head into the raid, you’ll be able to see that its Ditto, then it’ll turn into your Pokémon when you go into battle it.

  4. Battling Wild Pokémon - Sometimes the best way to find Dittos is to just find them organically whilst you’re out and about (sorry!).
