Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Picnic Shiny Farming Method

By
Jessica Dillon

It’s no secret that there are always little tricks to trying to farm shiny Pokemon. Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are no different in that regard. In many ways, farming shiny Pokemon is easier than ever in these games, with several different ways to increase your odds. Of course, to have the highest chance of catching a shiny Pokemon, you will need to game the system a bit using the Shiny Picnic Method. Below we go over how to use picnics to farm shiny Pokemon.

The Shiny Picnic Method

This method may seem a bit strange at first, but it uses the game’s own reset system to help you make the most of mass outbreaks. Below are the simple steps needed to farm shiny Pokemon using mass outbreaks and picnics to amplify your odds.

  1. Find a desired mass outbreak.
  2. Save your game.
  3. Go to the mass outbreak and clear out 60 Pokemon.
  4. Set up a picnic when you get the notification that there aren’t many Pokemon left.
  5. Leave the picnic. The mass outbreak will have respawned.
  6. Repeat as many times as needed.

A few tips for this method are using methods to increase your odds of actually finding a shiny.

In addition, if you don’t like the available mass outbreaks on your map, you can move your Nintendo Switch clock forward a day in order to reset your mass outbreaks.

How to Further Increase Your Shiny Odds

Without increasing your odds of getting a Shiny Pokemon, you are looking at a 1/4096 odds of actually getting a shiny. In other words, you will be farming all day and probably for some time after that to find your first shiny Pokemon. To speed up this method, there are three things you can do.

You can combine all three of the methods above together to greatly increase your chance of finding a shiny Pokemon in the wild. Just make sure to save before starting each farming session in case something goes wrong and you need to reset to an earlier point.

Here is the chart that shows you the odds of catching a shiny Pokemon with each method.
