Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

How to Beat Team Star's Poison Crew Leader, Atticus

By
Vincent Lau

This is a guide for defeating Atticus, Boss of Team Star’s Poison Crew in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Atticus is a fairly challenging Poison-type trainer so be prepared to bring some good counters with you!

You can challenge Don Atticus after completing the Star Barrage at the Poison Crew’s base in Tagtree Thicket, accessible via East Province (Area Three.

Recommended Pokémon for Atticus

Your Pokémon team should ideally be Level 33 or higher for this battle.

In general, Ground Ground and Psychic Psychic Pokémon are the way to go.

For a list of recommended Pokémon species, please refer to the previous page.

Atticus of the Team Star

(1 of 2) Atticus is a ninja fan.

Pokémon Level Type
"Skuntank" IconSkuntank 32 Dark Dark Poison Poison
Revavroom 33 Poison Poison Steel Steel
"Muk" IconMuk 32 Poison Poison
Revavroom (Navi Starmobile) 32 Poison Poison

If your Pokémon is a Psychic type, you’ve fallen for Atticus’s trap. Since "Skuntank" IconSkuntank is part Dark Dark, Psychic deals no damage. Only Ground Ground is super-effective. If you don’t have any for some reason, you’ll have to brute force it somehow.

Next, Atticus may send out Revavroom, but it’ll be a regular Revavroom this time and not the Starmobile. This time Psychic deals neutral damage, but it’s better than nothing. Meanwhile Ground Ground has a huge advantage, dealing 4x damage. Fire Fire is also great.

"Muk" IconMuk is a pure Poison Poison type, so if you brought a Psychic Psychic type, you could use them here. Or stick with your Ground type.

(1 of 2) Atticus has a second Vevavroom, but this one’s a Starmobile.

Finally, Atticus will bring out his Navi Starmobile. This part of the battle is a bit strange. The Navi Starmobile likes using Flame Charge to deal Fire-type damage and boost its Speed and Spin Out, a powerful Steel-type attack that lowers its Speed by two stages.

Your Ground Ground and Psychic Psychic types should do very well here, although they may get worn down by the Starmobile’s Spin Out spam.

If you brought out a Steel-type for walling purposes, keep in mind that they’re susceptible to Flame Charge, although the damage shouldn’t be that much.

Of note, Water Water Pokémon can resist both Flame Charge and Spin Out. "Slowpoke" IconSlowpoke and its evolved forms happen to be Water and Psychic Psychic. Meanwhile, "Whiscash" IconWhiscash and "Gastrodon" IconGastrodon are Water types that are also Ground Ground.

After the Battle

After neutralizing Atticus’s toxins, you’ll receive a Star Badge from him and TM102 Gunk Shot. This teaches a powerful Poison-type attack.

While leaving the base, Cassiopeia will call you again, unlocking additional TMs that you can craft at the TM Machine. Also, their helper will supply you with various Pokémon materials for crafting TMs.
