Gamefreak and The Pokémon Company have some serious love for Pokémon Legends: "Arceus" IconArceus, why else would trainers be wondering how to get Bloodmoon Ursaluna? That’s right, a variant of the long-forgotton Hisuian evolution of "Ursaring" IconUrsaring is back in the modern day thanks to The Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Let’s go through what trainers will need to take on this mighty Ground Ground and Normal Normal-type Pokémon, including how to find it.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna Requirements:

Whilst it goes without saying that trainers will need to have purchased The Hidden Mystery of Area Zero DLC pack, they will need to put in a couple of hours of gameplay depending on which Pokémon they have stored in Pokémon Home. This side-quest requires the Kitakami Pokédex have at least 150 Pokémon registered as captured, but we can confirm this can be done by transferring the required Pokémon from Pokémon Home to save some time.

We chose Mewtwo to face off against Bloodmoon Ursaluna because it’s Mewtwo. And it has Ice Beam.

We would also recommend a level 100 Pokémon or six that have strong Ice Ice, Grass Grass or Water Water-type moves. An easy option here would be the recent "Mewtwo" IconMewtwo the Unrivaled Tera Raid event due to it’s brilliant stats and "Ice Beam" iconIce Beam being part of its moveset out of the box.

How To Get Bloodmoon Ursaluna

Start by heading left from facing the community center, past the small garden and hut to find a photographer with a Hisuian "Growlithe" IconGrowlithe partner on the right-hand corner. This is the Pokémon photographer Perrin, and she needs your help finding a certain Pokémon to snap. Kick off this side quest by battling her to get some “battle poses” for her portfolio.

Meet Perin in The Timeless Woods to find the mythical Bloodmoon Ursaluna

She’ll kick things off with a level 68 "Noctowl" IconNoctowl, which can be taken care of easily enough with a move like Ice Beam. Next up is "Leafeon" IconLeafeon, so rinse and repeat an Ice Ice-type move to finish the battle. Perrin then goes on to explain rumors of the Bloodmoon Beast, a variant of Ursaluna that somehow traveled over for Hisui way-back-when. It’s time to head over to the Timeless Woods, northeast of Oni Mountain. Take this opportunity to get on the back of Miraidon or Koraidon and explore, Kitakami is full of surprises.

On arrival a cutscene starts with Perrin taking pictures of a "Poliwhirl" IconPoliwhirl with the help of Hisiuan Growlithe. It ends with a wild "Ariados" IconAriados attacking the team, which is easily remedied with Mewtwo’s Psystrike attack. Perrin then lets trainers in on her big plan to hunt down Bloodmoon Ursaluna, to take pictures of Pokémon and feed them into her Pokémon searcher machine to eliminate other wild Pokémon in the Timeless Woods.

Pokémon Survey In Timeless Woods

Trainers will need to take pictures of ten wild Pokémon in Timeless Woods, which along with Perrin’s efforts will narrow down the odds of finding Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Press down on the D-Pad to open the camera, then press A to take a picture. It’s best to walk around the woods perimeter, exploring caves whilst checking bodies of water and trees. Annoyingly, trainers aren’t able to crouch and take a picture at the same time, making it hard to sneak up on Pokémon.

(1 of 4) Multiple Pokemon can be caught in one shot to save time.

The monster recognition when taking pictures is rather forgiving, so just try and get the subject in the camera cross hairs and take a picture from a frontal perspective. Struggling to find ten different Pokémon? Try wondering through the central area of the woods to make up numbers. Also, multiple mons in one shot count as individual pictures providing they’re different species.

How To Catch Bloodmoon Ursaluna

Once Perrin feeds all of the data into her Pokémon locator, only one is left unaccounted for. It’s time to face Bloodmoon Ursaluna, who appears looming from the fog and is more cautious than vicious. Perrin’s autoflash sends it into a blind rage, which also starts the battle.

(1 of 3) Bloodmoon Ursaluna appears, stomping from the fog. What an amazing sight.

The Bloodmoon Ursaluna battle is in the style of Titanic and Raid battles, with a prolonged name and large health bar at the top of the screen. We used Mewtwo’s Ice Beam to whittle its health down, with "Mew" IconMew finishing the fight and dealing the final blow. As long as trainers are going into the fight with a level 100 team loaded with Ice Ice, Grass Grass or Water Water-type moves, it’s a manageable fight. After the fight, trainers will meet with Perrin for one last time back near the Community Center. After a heartfelt speech, she will gift a "Choice Scarf" iconChoice Scarf and a Hisiuan Growlithe as rewards for helping her.
