Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

How Does Hyper Training Work

By
Jessica Dillon

If you are wanting to play the Pokemon meta. Then you need to get familiar with special types of training. Hyper Training is an easy way to expedite the process of getting good IVs without having to hatch a million eggs. This is an expensive process and you can only get Hyper Training at one specific location in the game. If you’re new to the tournament world, then you likely have a ton of questions. Below we go over everything you need to know about Hyper Training, what it does, and how to go about unlocking it in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

Hyper Training requires a bottle cap exchange in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

What is Hyper Training

Hyper Training is a specialized type of training that you can use to raise a Pokemon’s stats. Having a Hyper Training session will raise the IV you selected to 31, which is the maximum possible stat in the game. If you already have a Pokemon with a maxed-out IV stat, the game will even mark it with a crown so that you don’t waste training.

This is what trainers have been doing to prepare for professional tournaments for years. At one time, this was a complicated process that could only be done through selective breeding and RNG luck. Pokemon Violet and Pokemon Scarlet continued this streamlined process from Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.

Keep in mind that while Hyper Training does help, you will still need to level your Pokemon and equip them with proper moves to succeed in battle.

Where is Hyper Training Located

You can only use Hyper Training if you go to Montenevera. The NPC is a male standing next to an "Abomasnow" IconAbomasnow located directly behind the town’s Pokemon Center.

How to Hyper Train in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet

You will need to meet a few requirements before being able to Hyper Train a Pokemon. Here is what you need to do before unlocking the feature.

  • Have Your Pokemon at Level 50.
  • Unlock the ability to get bottle caps.

Once you are able to Hyper Train, you will be given a list of stats to choose from. Before selecting which Pokemon to train, you can even check their summary to see just how well off they are. This allows you to optimize the process.

Once you select which Pokemons stat to train, Hyper Training will instantly happen. The cost of Hyper Training is very high, so only choose the Pokemon you plan to use long term unless you are seriously looking at getting into the competitive scene.

How Do I Pay For Hyper Training?

There are two waves to pay for Hyper Training. One is with regular bottle caps, which will only max out one IV. The other is with golden bottle caps, which will max out all of one Pokemon stats. These caps can be obtained through raids or bought from "Delibird" IconDelibird Presents. For more in-depth info on bottle caps, check out our guide here.

Here is a breakdown of the total cost of training a team of six to full IVs in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

Number of Pokemon PaymentMethod Cost
One "Bottle Cap" iconBottle Cap 120,000
One Golden "Bottle Cap" iconBottle Cap 245,000
Full-Team "Bottle Cap" iconBottle Cap 720,000
Full-Team Golden "Bottle Cap" iconBottle Cap 1,470,000

To put this into more of a perspective, even if you have the "Amulet Coin" iconAmulet Coin, you would have to run the Elite Four about around six times to max out an entire team without losing. If you don’t have the Amulet Coin, this double to twelve. While this isn’t awful, you will also have to put in the work to raise each Pokemon to level 50, and if you’re serious about playing professionally, you will need several well-built teams put through this process.

You can also sell items, but this is a much slower process, and the rarest item, the nugget, only sells for 5,000 a piece, making it a long-winded waste of time. This makes bottle caps your best bet, as the golden ones are way too expensive for what they are and should just be considered a happy raid reward.

When you go for training, their menu will tell you how many bottle caps you have in your possession so use them wisely.
