Trainers will need to know how to get "Poliwag" IconPoliwag, "Poliwhirl" IconPoliwhirl, "Poliwrath" IconPoliwrath and "Politoed" IconPolitoed in The Teal Mask DLC to complete the Kitakami Pokédex. We’ve got all the details on locations, evolution items and even competitive builds to keep trainers on their toes and in the game. Let’s get into it.

How To Get Poliwag

Head to the river east of Mossui Town and go south to where the other river meets. Poliwag can be found in good numbers here, which can all be caught with "Quick Ball" iconQuick Balls.

(1 of 3) From Mossui Town, head east to the River and head south until meeting another River.

How To Get Poliwhirl

Poliwag can easily be evolved into Poliwhirl by leveling it up one stage to trigger an evolution.

How To Get Poliwrath

How To Get Politoed

To evolve Poliwhirl into a Politoed, trainers will need to give a "King’s Rock" iconKing’s Rock to Poliwhirl and trade it to trigger an evolution. If trainers have a friend or another copy of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Nintendo Switch, just trade with yourself or a friend. Failing this, use Austin John Plays trade code of 00610061 to find a trade partner for Poliwhirl. This will result in getting a traded Poliwhirl evolving into Politoed.

(1 of 4) Give Poliwhirl the King’s Rock to hold.

Best Competitive Build For Poliwrath

Stat Description
Level 100
Tera Type Grass
Nature Adamant
Ability Water Absorb
Held Item "Leftovers" iconLeftovers
Moveset "Bulk Up" iconBulk Up, "Drain Punch" iconDrain Punch, "Ice Punch" iconIce Punch and "Liquidation" iconLiquidation

EVs 252 Attack, HP: 252 and Sp. Def: 4
IVs HP: 31, Attack: 31, Defense: 0, Sp. Atk: 31 Sp. Def. 31 and Speed: 31

This Poliwrath build is best used against any locked in water-types thanks to its Water Absorb ability which restores HP when receiving damage from Water attacks. This gives Poliwrath plenty of room to set up "Bulk Up" iconBulk Up, that raises it’s attack and defense, which it can do multiple times. "Liquidation" iconLiquidation can then deal STAB damage and takes advantage of Bulk Ups attack stat boost.

"Drain Punch" iconDrain Punch is another STAB option that can restore half the HP of damage dealt, which will work nicely with "Leftovers" iconLeftovers to keep Poliwrath in battle. "Ice Punch" iconIce Punch covers some popular typings in competitive, dealing super effective damage to Dragon, Flying and Grass types.

Best Competitive Build For Politoed

Stat Description
Level 100
Tera Type Water
Nature Calm
Ability Drizzle
Held Item "Sitrus Berry" iconSitrus Berry
Moveset "Encore" iconEncore, Hypnosis, Ice Bream and "Scald" iconScald.
Base Stats 90 HP
EVs HP: 252, Def: 100 and Sp. Def: 154
IVs HP: 31, Attack: 31, Defense: 0, Sp. Atk: 31 Sp. Def. 31 and Speed: 31

Politoed is best used as a support to setup the Rain field condition to set the stage for water STAB Pokémon such as Poliwrath. This will start as soon as Politoed is put into play, with room to set it up again should it need to thanks to its high defense and special defense stats and EV spread. The "Sitrus Berry" iconSitrus Berry is also a great held item, healing 25% of its HP when it falls below 50% and also adds to this strategy.

"Scald" iconScald is Politoads most useful move thanks to it gaining STAB whilst getting an attack boost from Rain and having a chance to cause the Burn status condition. "Encore" iconEncore should stop opponents from setting up any move-based strategies if used right, with Hypnosis giving an opening for switching in a Water STAB sweeper without it being attacked. "Ice Beam" iconIce Beam again gives great coverage for Dragon, Flying and Grass types, so if Politoed gets trapped in battle it has enough options to look after itself.

We’ve got hundreds of Pokémon locations already on our Kitakami Region Map, but why not check out all of the New and Returning Pokémon for the DLC too and complete the Kitakami Pokédex?
