Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Best Quaquaval Build

By
Jessica Dillon

Quaquaval is the final evolution of Quaxly, one of the three starter Pokemon in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. He is a powerful water/fighting-type that can be taught a variety of move types, including flying, fighting, and water. If you want to get the most out of him in Tera Raids, then you will want to ensure that he is properly built so that you can knock Tera Pokemon out quickly. Below we go over how to obtain Quaquaval and what moves you will need to have in order to build him properly.

How to Get Quaquaval

As of right now, you will either need to choose Quaxly to be your partner at the start of the game or trade with another player. Luckily, all three starters can be bred, so it’s easy to find someone online to trade with. Once you get a Quaxly, he will evolve at the following levels.

  • Quaxwell: Level 16
  • Quaquaval: Level 36

You won’t need to hold off on leveling Quaxly or Quaxwell for any of the moves used in Quaquavals best build, so feel free to let him evolve.

Quaquaval Build For Tera Raids

Once you have a Quaquaval, you can easily set it up to deal heavy damage to opponents. Like most starter Pokemon, Quaquaval is especially powerful when built correctly. To help buff Quaquaval, you will want to let it hold the "Focus Sash" iconFocus Sash. This item can be obtained from the Delibird Presents in Mesagoza after you earn four gym badges.

Here is the best move set for Quaquaval in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

You can also substitute Aqua Jet for "Ice Spinner" iconIce Spinner to get a bit more coverage. It’s a great move to use against dragon, ground, grass, and flying-type.

For the most part, getting moves for Quaquaval is simple Aqua Jet is learned by Quaxly at level 13. Aqua Step is learned by Quaquaval when it evolves at level 36, and Close Combat will be learned at level 58.

For this build, you will want to focus on using Swords Dance to increase your attack and then use Aqua Step or Close Combat to deal powerful hits to enemies. Which of the moves you will use will entirely depend on your opponent’s typing. Aqua Jet is the perfect move to use if your opponent is faster than you.

How to Teach Quaquaval Swords Dance

To teach Quaquaval Swords Dance, you will need to either find the TM or make it in the TM Machine. To make Swords Dance, you will need to collect the following Pokemon drops in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet.

There are two areas in the game where you can pick up Swords Dance when exploring.

Please note that this is a high-level area, so you won’t be able to get these TMs until later on.
