Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

How to Beat Salamence in the Tera Raid Event

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

A guide on how to beat "Salamence" IconSalamence during the limited time tera raid event in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet running from midnight UTC on December 9th through to 23:59 UTC on December 11th 2022.

During this event, Salamence will appear in Violet games whilst "Tyranitar" IconTyranitar will appear in Violet. You will encounter these Pokémon during 4 and 5 star tera raids. If you’d like to battle Salamence or Tyranitar but you don’t have the right version, you can go online and battle with other people who do have the right game version!

Salamence Tera Type

Salamence is a Dragon Dragon and Flying Flying type Pokémon. If you take on Salamence during a 4-star raid, its tera type will be random. If you battle Salamence during a 5-star raid, it’ll have a 50% chance of either being a Steel type or a random tera type.

If it does take on the Steel tera type, a strong Ground or Fighting type will do x2 damage. Iron Hands is a strong fighting-type Pokémon and it learns some powerful moves!

Naturally, given that the tera type can be random, it’ll be good to be prepared to pull out different Pokémon to deal extra damage to its tera type. Also, try to avoid bringing out Pokémon that might be weak to the following moves listed below.

Salamence 4-Star Raid Moveset

Move Type Category Power Accuracy PP
"Zen Headbutt" iconZen Headbutt "Psychic" iconPsychic Physical 80 90 15
"Dragon Claw" iconDragon Claw Dragon Physical 80 100 15
"Crunch" iconCrunch Dark Physical 80 100 15
"Dual Wingbeat" iconDual Wingbeat Flying Physical 40 90 10

If you’re looking to go more defensive against the 4-Star Raid Salamence, a strong Dark type would be immune to "Zen Headbutt" iconZen Headbutt damage, take x0.5 damage from "Crunch" iconCrunch, and the Dragon and Flying type moves will do normal damage.

Salamence 5-Star Raid Moveset

Move Type Category Power Accuracy PP
"Dragon Claw" iconDragon Claw Dragon Physical 80 100 15
"Hurricane" iconHurricane Flying Special 110 70 10
"Earthquake" iconEarthquake Ground Physical 100 100 10
"Dual Wingbeat" iconDual Wingbeat Flying Physical 40 90 10

If you’re looking to go more defensive against the 5-Star Raid Salamence, a Fairy-type will be immune to dragon moves and also only take normal damage from Ground and Flying Moves. But if it’s a steel type, Fairy types moves will do x0.5 damage so it may not be the best offensive approach.
