Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

How To Evolve Riolu into Lucario

By
Shane Williams

This page explains everything you may wish to know about catching a "Riolu" IconRiolu and evolving it into "Lucario" IconLucario in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. These are hidden throughout Paldea and are required for completing the Pokédex.

Riolu can be found in South Province Area Four.

Riolu is a Fighting Fighting type Pokemon.

Where to Catch Riolu

If you haven’t yet caught yourself a Riolu, then there’s a few locations where you can find one. You’ll most likely have a better chance of catching one in South Province Area Four and you’ll find it roaming about at the north of the area.

Riolu is extremely weak to Flying Flying, Psychic Psychic and Fairy Fairy Type Pokemon and will take 2x damage from them, so you want to use those Pokemon Types which are slightly above its level to lower its health before attempting to catch it.

How to Evolve Riolu into Lucario

In order to evolve Riolu into Lucario you’ll need to increase its friendship level which can be done by keeping in your team and allowing it to run about via the Let’s Go Feature. Additionally, you can purchase a "Soothe Bell" iconSoothe Bell from any "Delibird" IconDelibird Presents Shop and give it to Riolu to hold, as this will speed up the process.

How To Check Your Friendship Level in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

You can check your Friendship level by speaking with the NPC in Cascarrafa. It has three categories: You two seem neutral – low friendship, I’m sure you could get way friendlier – middling friendship and You’re the best friends ever – high friendship. Once your Rioulu’s Friendship is high enough it’ll automatically evolve when you next level it up.
