This is a guide for defeating Kofu, the Water Gym Leader, during his rematch in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
How to Rematch Kofu¶
Before, it was just a taster; this time, you’re getting the full course.
You can rematch Kofu after completing the Area Zero story (after seeing the credits roll) and visiting the Director’s Office at Naranja/Uva Academy. Geeta will ask you to visit the eight gyms of Paldea in her place, as part of an inspection. During this time, you can challenge the gym leaders at their full power!
Recommended Pokémon for Kofu During His Rematch¶
Kofu is still cooking with his Water types, so we recommend bringing a bunch of Grass and Electric types.
His Pokémon are all Level 65-66, so your Pokémon should be Level 65+ to match.
If you’re starving for ideas, here are some suggestions:
- The Level 65 Tera
Tsareena at Socarrat Trail. - Wo-Chien, a Dark and Grass Legendary found in a sealed shrine.
- If playing Scarlet, Brute Bonnet, a Grass and Dark Paradox commonly found in Area Zero.
- If playing Violet, Iron Hands, a Fighting and Electric Paradox commonly found in Area Zero.
- If playing Violet, Miraidon, a restricted (read: OP) Legendary that’s Dragon and Electric.

Veluza¶
Mold Breaker ignores abilities when attacking.
Kofu leads with his Veluza again. This time it’s got Aqua Cutter and Psycho Cut for STAB (both with increased chance to critical), Night Slash to scare Ghost types and Aqua Jet to try and sneak in an attack before you. Mold Breaker allows its moves to ignore your abilities. So Water Absorb won’t nullify Veluza’s water moves, for example.
Grass types are ideal here, so long as they’re not weak to Psychic. Electric types are great too, but they don’t resist Aqua Cutter and Aqua Jet.
Pelipper¶
Pelipper is here for Drizzle support, summoning rain, which powers up Water moves. For attacks, it has 
Surf for STAB and rain-boosted damage, 
Hurricane for Flying STAB and to take advantage of 100% accuracy under rain, 
Blizzard for general coverage and Quick Attack to surprise you, maybe.
A fast Electric type will end Pelipper’s career in an instant.
Wugtrio¶
Simply touching Wugtrio can slow you down!
Wugtrio is back for a second round. It can now use Triple Dive to deal three hits, 
Throat Chop to silence sound-based moves, 
Stomping Tantrum to counter Electric types and Sucker Punch to try and go first, if you’re using an attacking move. Direct contact with Wugtrio will lower your Speed, due to its Gooey ability.
This is a job for a reliable Grass type.
Clawitzer¶
Clawitzer is another new addition. Watch out for STAB 
Water Pulse, plus 
Dark Pulse, 
Dragon Pulse and 
Aura Sphere for wide coverage. All of Clawitzer’s moves are boosted by its Mega Launcher ability.
Grass types are ideal, since they’re super-effective and resist Water Pulse.
Terastallized Crabominable¶
We got a little unlucky here.
Finally, Kofu will once again Terastallize his main course. It will swap from Fighting and Ice to become a pure Water type, while retaining Fighting and Ice STAB.
For attacks, it has Crabhammer, Ice Hammer and 
Close Combat, which all benefit from STAB. Plus 
Zen Headbutt for additional coverage. Its Iron Fist ability also boosts Ice Hammer.
This one can be a toughie if you’re on equal footing. However, Crabominable is slow, so you can easily get your hits in. Electric types are the safest offensive choice, but there’s no way to resist all three STAB moves. Defensively, Veluza or 
Azumarill could work, as they resist all 3 (actually, Veluza resists all of its moves).
