No Turning Back

Well, things keep getting worse and worse for Noctis and his friends, with Prompto now out of commission. However, the figurative crap hitting the fan happens as the train enters a tunnel and you’re attacked by some daemons. You’ll encounter some Snagas, which you’ve seen before in Fodina Caestino, and a Gargoyle, something that is new. The later is weak to polearms, shields and lightning, while being strong against fire. It is also very quick with its attacks, so you might need to play defensively for a bit.

After taking care of the first wave of daemons, another wave of the same variety will appear. Move forward after finishing them off to fight more daemons. You will get a notice to hold off until the train gets out of the tunnel, so just focus on surviving and enjoy the whirlwind of excitement that is the short cutscene that brings the attack to a close.

Objective Reward
For surviving the daemons EXP 1,000

The Gargoyle (left) is a new enemy and has very fast attacks. The train slowly becomes overrun with daemons (right) so just try to hold on.

Once the train finally stops and arrives at the station, you’ll meet up with a familiar face, Aranea. Follow her to whatever sort of camp she has set up, since she is now on her own and not working for the empire anymore. She introduces you to Biggs and Wedge, who will be helping you out. Speak with Biggs after the fact, who mentions that the retainer of House Fleuret wishes to talk to you. Cross the bridge to the south-west to find the retainer, but before you talk to her search north of where she stands to find a loot spot ( Sky Gemstone ) next to some crates.

Talk to Maria and she’ll discuss some politics, after which you’ll have to endure another scene with Luna. When you’re finished, it’s time to reboard the train, but before that, it’s time to do some shopping and looting. Cross back over the bridge and when you reach Aranea turn north to find another loot spot ( Magitek Booster ) near a mech. From this mech travel north-east over a rock and past another mech to reach a dropship. Search west of the dropships ramp (behind some crates) to find an Earth Gemstone, then head up the ramp into the dropship to find the Commeatus Armorum store, where you can peruse a variety of arms and accessories, identical to what the Armeria Madiani sold in the previous chapter.

Commeatus Armorum

Titanium Bangle 2,500 Gil
Heliodore Bracelet 2,000 Gil
Talisman 1,500 Gil
Knight’s Anklet 2,500 Gil
Oracle Card 2,500 Gil

Speak to the House Fleuret retainer (left) to learn more about Luna and then don’t forget to shop for healing items before setting out (right).

Buy what you want (if anything) then head south to find another store the Pergula Legionis. Look through your inventory and if you have any excess of items, such as those dropped from monsters, sell some off and build up a health supply of healing items, as you might need them in the following story quest and upcoming chapter.

Pergula Legionis (Items)

Item Price
Potion 50 Gil
Hi-Potion 100 Gil
Elixir 400 Gil
Hi-Elixir 800 Gil
Phoenix Down 1,000 Gil

Back at the station, you’ll encounter a little girl, which will trigger some cutscenes. When it’s over, loot the Flesh Fortifier behind the girl, then go to the boarding platform to find another item ( Muscle Stimulant ) at the northern end. Go to the southern end to find a Reflex Enchancer , then go into the middle of the two trains to find a Mega Phoenix at the one end. This is one of the last times you can call forth Umbra at the inn (inside the one train) to travel back to Lucis or Altissia, so do that if you need any extra levels or gil. When you’re ready, talk to Biggs to set off for Gralea.

Objective Reward
For visiting Tenebrae EXP 1,000

After a years-long cold war between the Kingdom of Lucis and the empire of Niflheim over the world’s last crystal, an armistice is finally agreed upon. As part of the peace treaty, the heir to the Lucian throne Noctis Lucis Caelum is to marry Lady Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, an oracle from the imperial province of Tenebrae. After Noctis sets out to meet his betrothed, the treaty collapses. Merely a ruse to bring down the magical barrier protecting Lucis, Niflheim invades and takes the kingdom and the crystal for itself. With the treaty in tatters and his father and betrothed believed dead, Noctis must rely on his own tenacity and the support of his band of loyal followers to get him through what is to come.
