Felling the Mad, Old Trees

Level Target Habitat Reward
46 Treant (x1) The Vesperpool (Nighttime) 3 Stars, 9,900 Gil, Mega Phoenix

Requires you to complete The Myrlwood dungeon/sidequest . You will not find this enemy inside of The Myrlwood where you first fought it, so you don’t have to make the trek back through the place. However, the fight is still the same as before, although it’s a bit stronger. At level 46, it has around 91,000 health and is weak to greatswords, machinery and fire, while being strong against lightning and holy. It can inflict the Mollified (lowered strength) and Poison statuses, but only poison can be dangerous.

Serpent of Risorath Basin

Level Target Habitat Reward
54 Midgardsormr x1 The Vesperpool (All Times) 4 Stars, 15,690 Gil, Mega Phoenix

Requires Hunter Rank 7 . You might remember this giant serpent as the one that was right outside the Glacial Grotto dungeon and if you’ve fought it before, then you know what to expect. This one will be located north of The Vesperpool parking spot. At level 54, with a whopping 205,000 HP, it is weak to swords, daggers and ice, while being strong against fire and holy. While not a particularly difficult battle, the Midgardsormr is quick and hits rather hard, especially with its tail, so keep an eye out for that attack.

In addition to the above, the serpent can attack by slithering along the ground and it can also stand up to spray some kind of liquid around it; the latter hurts a lot and hits multiple times. You also want to be careful when it’s far away, as it can shoot a jet of poison at you. There are two opportunities in which the blocking prompt can appear, the first of which has the Midgardsormr rise up and try to flatten you with its head. The other opportunity is when you see if it coil up around you, which is the signal that it will try to swallow you up. Lastly, warp away whenever the serpent goes underground, as it will pop up underneath you, although you can see where it is coming from by the ground moving.

Be careful when the serpent attempts to coil around you (left). It will try to smash you when it jumps out of the ground (right).

Breeding Season: Hen Extermination

Level Target Habitat Reward
62 Royalisk x2 The Vesperpool (Daytime) 4 Stars, 21,120 Gil, Mega Phoenix

Requires Hunter Rank 8 . This hunt is located to the west of The Vesperpool parking spot, on the path that eventually leads to The Myrlwood dungeon. You’ve fought Cockatrices before in a hunt and these Royalisks are just a stronger version of them. Royalisks have the ability to lower your strength and can also poison you, so watch out for when they try to spit at you. They have quite a bit of health (171,000) and are level 62, with a weakness of polearms, shields and fire, and strengths against lightning and holy. Overall, they’re not too tough and there will be ample opportunities to parry some of their attacks. Concentrate on one until it finally goes down, then the rest of the battle will be very easy.

Breeding Season: Rooster Extermination

Level Target Habitat Reward
70 Kingatrice (x1), Basilisk (x3) Risorath Basin (Daytime) 5 Stars, 30,320 Gil, Mega Phoenix

Requires Hunter Rank 9 . The Basilisks are a non-threat in this battle, seeing as they are level 24, so just take them out real quick at the beginning of the fight so you can concentrate solely on the Kingatrice. Of course, the Kingatrice is just an evolved Cockatrice and if you’ve fought them before, you know how to deal with their attacks. You don’t want to slash away blindly and play a bit defensively to avoid any quick attacks. The Kingatrice is level 70 and is weak to greatswords, machinery and fire, while being strong against both ice and holy.

People-Eating Snake Has Got to Go

Level Target Habitat Reward
78 Hvitorormr (x1) The Vesperpool (All Times) 5 Stars, 36,070 Gil, Mega Phoenix

Requires Hunter Rank 9 . The Hvitrormr is nothing more than a Midgardsormr, but with a different name and a higher level. In fact, it has all of the same moves as the former, meaning you should know how to fight it without too much trouble. As always, be wary of its poison spit attack, as well as when it goes underground and tries to knock you around upon resurface. The Hvitrormr is level 78 and has a good amount of health (around 374,000), with weaknesses to swords, daggers and ice, while having strengths against both fire and holy.

Clear out the side rooms prior to spawning the Daemonwall (left). Try to avoid spending too much time on the minions it spawns (right).

A Wall in Our Way

Level Target Habitat Reward
84 Daemonwall (x1) Steyliff Grove (All Times) 5 Stars, 38,000 Gil, Emerald Bracelet

Requires Hunter Rank 9 . Despite the in-game time telling you it’s available at all times, you can only do this hunt at night, since Steyliff Grove is only available at nighttime. The fight against the Daemonwall is a race against time, as it is constantly pushing you back towards a teleport pad that will take you to the beginning of the dungeon. The problem is that the Daemonwall will summon a bunch of smaller enemies to get in your way, so things aren’t so cut and dry. Note that Wait Mode is disabled for this battle.

After a years-long cold war between the Kingdom of Lucis and the empire of Niflheim over the world’s last crystal, an armistice is finally agreed upon. As part of the peace treaty, the heir to the Lucian throne Noctis Lucis Caelum is to marry Lady Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, an oracle from the imperial province of Tenebrae. After Noctis sets out to meet his betrothed, the treaty collapses. Merely a ruse to bring down the magical barrier protecting Lucis, Niflheim invades and takes the kingdom and the crystal for itself. With the treaty in tatters and his father and betrothed believed dead, Noctis must rely on his own tenacity and the support of his band of loyal followers to get him through what is to come.
