Bloodhound Knight Darriwil Location in Limgrave¶
Bloodhound Darriwil is best found by following Blaidd’s quest. His actual location is at the Forlorn Evergaol, south of the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace.
From there, follow the path south until you find a circular stone floor with a blue glyph in the center. Interact with the glyph to enter the ‘arena’. Once inside the arena, walk towards the faint blue line at the edge to initiate the encounter.
Attacks¶
Sweeping Combo¶
Darriwil will bring his arm back before using a three-hit combo. He’ll do two wide sweeping arc attacks in opposite directions, finishing it off with a vertical slam. The best way to avoid this combo is to roll to the side the attack is coming from, then sidestep/roll out of the way of the vertical slam. Another good way to avoid this attack is to roll backwards, then sprint away from him, although you may get hit on your way out.
Running Slash¶
Another combo, this time with two attacks. If you are at a distance from Darriwil, he’ll sprint towards you and do an upwards stike which’ll launch him off the ground. When he’s in midair, he’ll slash across from the side. You can block both of these attacks if you have a shield, otherwise dodge towards him on the first attack, then dodge again for the second.
Jumping Slam¶
Darriwil will jump in the air before slamming down on to you with his sword. You can avoid this by simply sidestepping or rolling to either side. A block will also suffice.
Phase Sweep¶
Darriwil will disappear for a spit second before he phases towards you with a sweeping slash. You can avoid this by rolling backwards when you see the slash happening. He’ll normally follow this up with another attack, either the Sweeping Combo or the Retreating Slash appear to be the most common.
Charged Uppercut¶
Darriwil will touch his sword upon the ground whilst charging at you, finishing with a fearsome upwards attack. Block or roll through the attack to avoid taking any damage.
Retreating Slash¶
When he’s up close to you, Darriwil will do an upwards slash before jumping backward to create some distance to you. Block or dodge to avoid the attack.
Claw Swipe¶
Darriwil will lunge at you, swiping with his claw from left to right in a sweeping motion. Either roll forward or backwards to avoid the attack. You can block this attack too.
Leaping Slash¶
Similar to the Claw Swipe attack, Darriwil will jump towards you with a sweeping slash from right to left. Either Block or roll forward/backwards to avoid the attack.
Strategy¶
With Blaidd¶
If you have been following Blaidd’s quest line, you can summon him for the battle. This battle then becomes trivial as you can have Blaidd initiate and tank the battle whilst you get some attacks, even some backstabs when his back is to you.
Without Blaidd¶
This battle becomes a lot tougher when you go at it alone. Darriwil is extremely agile, and he has alot of sweeping attacks. He’ll often chain some of his attacks back to back. The best way to deal with him is to keep close and be ready to avoid his attacks by rolling through them or block with a shield. Your best chance to land any hits is when he does his Jumping Slam attack, as you’ll be able to get one or two hits on him depending on your weapon. If you try to make anymore attacks, you’ll end up trading damage.
Although it can be tough to get a hit on him sometimes, he doesn’t have a great amount of health so you can take it slow to avoid over attacking and taking unneccasary damage. If you get some distance from Darriwil to heal, he’ll aggresively run or phase towards you, so be extra careful when healing. Keep chipping away at him with one or two hits, and you’ll eventually defeat him.
Another thing worth noting is if you have access to Sorceries, Glinstone Phalanx is very strong against him as can the Ash of War: Glintstone Arch. Finally, if you have a shield, make sure to always be ready to block due to his speed, and unpredictable movements.
