Dragon's Dogma 2

Readvent of Calamity Walkthrough - Dragon's Dogma 2

By
Scott Peers

The "Readvent of Calamity" iconReadvent of Calamity quest in "Dragon" iconDragon’s Dogma 2 is a fairly short one, but it can be difficult to complete if you don’t know where to go, and the conditions for starting and progressing it can be confusing. The main purpose of the quest is essentially to ensure that Ulrika, the woman who saved you at the beginning of the game, is kept safe, while the village of "Melve" iconMelve can continue to be governed in safe hands by Rennart. On this page, we’ll show you exactly where to find Ulrika once she leaves Melve, and we’ll also explain the conditions required for her to spawn in "Harve Village" iconHarve Village.

The Readvent of Calamity quest begins when you return to Melve after visiting Vernworth.

How to Start Readvent of Calamity

The conditions for starting the Readvent of Calamity quest may be different for each player, but the basic principle requires you to travel to "Vernworth" iconVernworth and complete a few quests there, before returning to Melve at a later stage (whether by oxcart or on foot). If you’ve already completed quests in Vernworth and returned to Melve without Readvent of Calamity triggering, try checking if you have any unfinished quests in Melve by speaking with the locals, and complete those first. Otherwise, you’ll need to make a habit of returning to Melve as you continue to complete quests in Vernworth, and the quest should eventually trigger.

Repel the Dragon at Melve

The first thing you’ll need to do once the quest finally triggers upon returning to Melve is repel a dragon attack. The dragon may not be killable at this stage in the game if you’re at a relatively low level, but you can still attack it until it flees. You shouldn’t have any trouble here, especially with most of the fighters in Melve by your side, including a mysterious figure named "Sigurd" iconSigurd (who can teach you the "Mystic Spearhand" iconMystic Spearhand vocation) with the ability to cast a protective bubble around you.

Once the dragon has either fled or been killed, a brief scene will play with some dialogue between Ulrika and Rennart. After the scene, you can speak with Sigurd to learn the Mystic Spearhand vocation immediately or choose to do so later if you prefer (you can learn more about that on our How to Unlock Mystic Spearhand Vocation page). Either way, at this stage in the quest you’ll need to rest, whether at the inn within Melve or at a campfire in the wilderness, then return to Melve and speak with Ulrika at her house in the highest point of the village.

Visit Ulrika’s House in Melve

It may take more than one rest before you can visit Ulrika again, but you’ll know for sure when the area around her house is highlighted on the map, indicating that there’s an active quest objective there. At this point, all you need to do is enter the house for a cutscene to begin with Ulrika and an official visiting from Vernworth. The official tries to blame Ulrika for the dragon attack, and for plotting treason against Queen Regent Disa.

Nothing that Ulrika says can sway the official, and after he storms out you can speak with her to progress the quest. She’ll ask you to stay the night at her house, and when you wake up, she’ll be gone. You need to leave the house to trigger another scene, this time with the official and "Lennart" iconLennart, who is able to convince the official that Ulrika is gone for good. For the time being, Lennart will be in charge of Melve, and your next task is to find out where Ulrika has gone.

Where to Find Ulrika’s Location – Harve Village

At this stage, the quest leaves you at a point without any clue as to where Ulrika might have gone, and you could be searching the entire kingdom without any luck. However, if you want to find her as quickly as possible, you need to go to Harve Village, where she can be found in hiding.

When you arrive in Harve Village, you should be able to find Ulrika speaking with Jonas, the village elder. The scene will end with the start of the "Trouble on the Cape" iconTrouble on the Cape quest, which is a small side quest that involves following Ulrika to "Stormwind Cave" iconStormwind Cave, where you need to rescue a villager named Zoran from the "Saurian" iconSaurians. This won’t take long, and you’ll have plenty of help from Ulrika and other soldiers, so it isn’t difficult either.

(1 of 2) Harve Village is located on the peninsula southwest of Vernworth.

After you’ve saved Zoran and returned to the center of Harve Village, Fyoran will greet you, relieved that you’re safe, and the villagers (even Jonas!) will ask Ulrika to become their new leader. With Ulrika found and establishing herself in a new home, you can now return to Lennart in Melve, informing him of her wellbeing and earning 2000 XP, 4500 Gold, and a "Ring of Grit" iconRing of Grit for completing the quest.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the long-awaited sequel to a predecessor that gained a cult following for its quirky pawns and charming jank, not to mention the diverse combat options that came with access to several unique vocations. All of that and more is expanded upon with DD2, while some of the mechanics have been simplified to make them more accessible, but still retaining that unapologetic focus on rewarding exploration at the heart of its gameplay. You are the Arisen, fated to confront the Dragon’s Dogma, and the initial path you take is a familiar one to those who played the original, but you’ll soon find that there’s more to this story than meets the eye.
