Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Lake Valor (Encounters & Items)

By
Vincent Lau

This is a walkthrough for Lake Valor, including what Pokémon you can encounter and items you can find.

(1 of 2) Lake Valor is the site of a Team Galactic experiment.

Lake Valor is one of the three lakes of Sinnoh, located towards the east, accessible by traveling south from Veilstone City or east from Pastoria City. When you first arrive at Valor Lakefront, the entrance to the lake will be blocked.

Later, after defeating Gym Leader Byron and chatting to your pals at the Canalave City library, a big explosion will occur at Lake Valor. You can then head to the lake, where you’ll discover the lake waters have completely subsided and the area is swarming with Team Galactic Grunts.

Your task is to navigate the lakebed and reach the central cavern where the lake guardian resides.

Valor Cavern

When you enter Valor Cavern, one of Team Galactic’s commanders, Saturn, will face you in battle.

Commander Saturn

Saturn leads with "Kadabra" IconKadabra, an evolved "Abra" IconAbra. This crafty Psychic-type can use Reflect to weaken your physical moves, Rain Dance to cause 8 turns of Rain with its Damp Rock, Kinesis to lower Accuracy and Psychic for STAB. Dark-types will laugh at its face; Ghost-types should do fine, if they’re not part Poison.

"Bronzor" IconBronzor is mostly a distraction, since its unevolved. It can use Confuse Ray to make your Pokémon hurt themselves, Gyro Ball and Extrasensory for STAB and Payback to annoy Ghost-types. Fire and Dark-types have a distinct advantage here; don’t use Ground-types because of Levitate.

Finally, "Toxicroak" IconToxicroak is a minor menace. It can use Toxic to cause severe poison, Thief to try and snatch your hold item (and damage Psychic-types), Mud-Slap to lower Accuracy and Revenge for STAB. Psychic-types are ideal for their 4x damage. Flying and Ground-types are also great. But avoid Water moves due to Dry Skin.

Once he’s defeated, your next mission is to visit Lake Verity, near the start of the game.
