This is a walkthrough for Wayward Cave, including what Pokémon you can encounter and items you can find.
Where to Find Flash¶
As soon as you enter the Wayward Cave, you’ll discover it’s pitch black inside. To proceed, we highly recommend having a Pokémon use Flash. You can teach Flash via TM70 Flash, obtained from the basement of Oreburgh Gate or by purchasing it from the 3rd floor of the Veilstone City Department Store.
Secret Entrance¶
Besides the obvious main entrance, located to the right of the cycling road, there’s a hidden entrance underneath the road. From the main entrance, walk south a bit until you’re near the northernmost tree. Then go west underneath the road. Just before you emerge from the road, go north while underneath the road.
This hidden entrance will lead you to a small, isolated area with stairs leading to the basement of the cave. However, to get to the stairs, you need to use HM Strength to push aside the boulders.
Pokémon Trainer Mira (Ally)¶
Pokémon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Kadabra | 18 |
When you reach the north-eastern corner of the first floor, you’ll tag along with Mira, a little girl who’s lost. While Mira is present, all wild Pokémon encounters will feature two Pokémon at once, with Mira assisting as Player 2. Likewise, Mira will assist as Player 2 during Double Battles with other trainers.
As an extra bonus, Mira will fully restore your party after every single fight. So this is a great chance for some hardcore training! Mira will permanently leave when you reach the entrance of the cave. You cannot use Escape Rope while Mira is present.

Map (B1F)¶
As outlined near the beginning of this page, the only way to reach the basement level is by entering via the secret entrance. You’ll also need HM Strength to push the boulders blocking the path to the stairs. Unlike the ground floor, the basement doesn’t require Flash.
To navigate the basement, you’ll need to masterfully utilize the Bicycle to speed over the mini-ramps. If there’s not enough space to gain momentum in a straight line, remember that you can maintain momentum when turning corners, so long as you don’t bump into something.

Where to Find Gible¶
Outside of the Grand Underground, Wayward Cave is the only place to find Gible. Fortunately, the encounter rate isn’t too bad: 15%. However, you’ll only run into Gible in the basement, not the ground floor.
