This page explains how to activate the Soul Room to catch Latias and Latios in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).
Where is the Soul Room?¶
The Soul Room is accessible via the next cave north-west from the entrance in Ramanas Park, past the Discovery Room. To enter the park, you must have the National Pokédex. Inside the Soul Room, there’s a pedestal ahead where you slot in a Soul Slate.
Each time you use a Soul Slate, you can battle one of Latias and Latios and attempt to capture them. The one that appears first is random. To catch both, you’ll need two Soul Slates.
How to Obtain a Soul Slate¶
You can purchase a Soul Slate from the bottom vendor inside the Ramanas Park gatehouse after completing the Discovery Room (by catching Regirock, Regice and Registeel). It will cost you 3 Mysterious Shard S or 1 Mysterious Shard L for one slate.
Mysterious Shard S and L can be obtained when digging in the Grand Underground after acquiring the National Pokédex. Both are relatively rare, with the L variety naturally being rarer than the S variety. The S variety occupies a 2 x 2 space, while the L variety occupies a 3 x 3 space.
How to Catch Latias¶
Legendary Pokémon¶
Pokémon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Latias | 70 |
Latias is the more defensively-oriented of the pair. It can use Reflect Type to copy your Pokémon’s type, Guard Split to average your Pokémon and its Defense and Special Defence stats, Psychic for STAB and Healing Wish that’s completely useless in this fight.
Surviving Latias isn’t too hard; a Dark-type will shrug off Psychic. When weakening Latias, you should use False Swipe, at least towards the end. If not using False Swipe, keep in mind the effect of Reflect Type; in most situations, the same type will resist itself, but not for Ghosts and Dragons. After lowering Latias’s HP and applying paralysis/sleep, you can begin with Ultra Balls, then swap to Timer Balls after 10 turns.
How to Catch Latios¶
Legendary Pokémon¶
Pokémon | Level | Type |
---|---|---|
Latios | 70 |
Latios is the more offensively-oriented of the pair. It can use Dragon Pulse, Luster Purge and Zen Headbutt for STAB and Dragon Dance to boost its Attack and Speed (this will make Zen Headbutt hurt harder). From the onset, it might be a good idea to paralyze Latios, to slow it down and render it immobile every now and then.
To raise your odds of survival, you could have a Dark-type sit in front to take zero damage from Luster Purge and Zen Headbutt. Dual Psychic and Fairy Pokémon are great too, to take zero damage from Dragon Pulse and resist its Psychic-type moves. So long as your Pokémon can take the pain, it’s a pretty straightforward fight. As usual, once Latios is weakened, unleash your Ultra/Timer Balls etc.
After Catching Latias and Latios¶
Once you’ve caught Latias, a Petaya Berry will appear on the ground. Meanwhile, catching Latios will cause an Apicot Berry to magically appear. After you’ve caught both, a Soul Dew will also appear. This is a neat hold item for Latias and Latios that boosts their Psychic and Dragon damage by 20%. In earlier games, it was far more busted than that.
