Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Lake Trio: How to Catch Uxie

By
Vincent Lau

This page explains how to encounter and catch "Uxie" IconUxie in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).

(1 of 2) To find Uxie, head over to Acuity Cavern in the center of Lake Acuity.

Uxie is one of the Legendary lake guardians of Sinnoh. After defeating Team Galactic at the Spear Pillar, Uxie can be found at Acuity Cavern, in the center of Lake Acuity. To battle and attempt to capture Uxie, you simply interact with it inside the cavern.

Of the lake trio, Uxie specializes in bulk, with excellent Defense and Special Defense. It can use Psychic and Extrasensory for STAB damage, although it shouldn’t do much with its weak Special Attack. Besides that, it may use Amnesia to greatly boost its Special Defense and Imprison to prevent your Pokémon from using moves that it knows (unlikely unless you field a Psychic-type).

Since Uxie only has Psychic attacks, you can send out a Dark-type to take zero damage from its attacks. "Absol" IconAbsol and the "Sneasel" IconSneasel line are perfect, since they can also learn False Swipe via TM. Otherwise, you could send out a Steel-type or your own Psychic-type to take half damage. If you have Let’s Go save data, "Mew" IconMew can also be taught False Swipe.

(1 of 2) Weaken Uxie with False Swipe, while applying a status ailment.

False Swipe is recommended to weaken Uxie, at least towards the end. Uxie does have high Defense, so it might take a lot of False Swipes. But at least the damage will be consistent–and not affected by Amnesia. It’s your choice whether to apply paralysis, which lasts forever, or sleep, which lasts a few turns but leads to a slightly higher catch rate. Of note, "Mightyena" IconMightyena is a Dark-type that can learn Yawn.

Like most Legendary Pokémon, Uxie has a low catch rate. So expect to use a lot of Poké Balls, even if they’re of the highest grade. Ultra Balls are your typical no-frills option, Timer Balls are great once 10 turns have passed and there’s also an opportunity to use Dusk Balls since you’re in a cave. Just in case, you could even throw a Quick Ball on turn 1. Don’t waste the Master Ball on Uxie though.
