How to Locate & Use HM Rock Smash (TM 98)

This page explains how to find Rock Smash (TM98) - a Fighting-type HM Move (Hidden Move) that allows you to smash cracked rocks in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP).

You can obtain Rock Smash (TM98) from the Hiker near the entrance of the Oreburgh Gate at the end of Route 203.

How to Use Rock Smash

(1 of 2) To use Rock Smash, you must defeat Roark, the Oreburgh City Gym Leader.

Easy Method

(1 of 2) Face the cracked rock and press the A button.

Simply press the A Button towards the cracked rock and you’ll be prompted to use Rock Smash.

Longer Method

(1 of 2) You can also manually select “Rock Smash” from the Hidden Moves app.

Alternatively, while facing a cracked rock, open up and zoom into your Pokétch by using the R button.

While zoomed in, move the cursor with the Left Stick and press the A button while on top of the big red button on the right side to cycle to the Hidden Moves app. (You can also cycle by clicking the Right Stick inwards.)

When you’re on the Hidden Moves app (while zoomed in), hover over Rock Smash with the cursor and then press the A button.

Notable Locations Where You Can Use Rock Smash

  • Oreburgh Gate, to reach the basement and obtain TM70 Flash.
  • Ravaged Path, to progress to Floaroma Town.
  • Various other caves throughout the game.
