Pokémon: Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

How to Cook Poffins

By
Staci Miller

Poffins are a key item for being successful in Super Contest Shows. Here’s how to get Poffins and master them in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.

What are Poffins?

Poffins can be fed to your Pokémon as a treat to raise their condition in either Beauty, Cool, Cute, Smart, and Tough. The flavor of a Pokémon depends on the Berries used when making them, but the flavor corresponds to a condition.

Flavor Condition
Dry Beauty
Spicy Cool
Sweet Cute
Bitter Smart
Sour Tough

Unlock Poffins

Poffins aren’t immediately available in the game. In fact, you’ll have to unlock them.

You can do this by finding the Pokémon Fan Club. It’s in Hearthome City to the right of the Poké Mart. Head inside and speak to a man who will talk about Poffins and hand over the Poffin Case, which is essential to making them.

Cooking Poffins

When you have the Poffin Case, you can head to the house on the left of the Poké Mart this time.

Choose Berries and begin the minigame to make Poffins. The game is split into three stages, and you will have to move the joystick in the direction of the arrows to successfully make your Poffin.

At the beginning, the batter is thin, and will spill very easily. Make sure you stir gently. As the stages progress, the batter gets progressively thicker, so you’ll have to stir harder and faster. After a couple of attempts, you should be able to get the hang of this.

Essentially, you want to use berries of the same flavor (but not four of the same Berry, which will create a Foul Poffin). You should use at least one unique Berry with three others. The Poffin that comes out of it will raise the condition of your Pokémon and which condition it raises depends on the flavor used.

Flavor Berries Required
Dry Oran, Chesto, Wiki, Pamtre, Charti, and Micle
Spicy Leppa, Cheri, Pinap, Figy, Tanga, and Enigma
Sweet Persim, Pecah, Bluk, Kasib, Mago, and Custap
Bitter Rawst, Lum, Nabnab, Aguav, Haban, and Jaboca
Sour Sitrus, Lapapa, Aspear, Wepear, Colbur, and Rowap

High-Level Poffins

High-level Poffins must be made inside Amity Square. You’ll have to use Berries with strong tastes and be very good at the minigame.

Feeding Poffins

You can feed Poffins to your Pokémon by selecting them from the item menu, as you would any other item.

It’s important to note, however, that Pokémon with certain natures won’t take well to certain flavors (and will take well to others). If you’re serious about your Poffin game, knowing the nature of the Pokémon and their opinion of that specific flavor can really help things.

This guide is a work in progress and Poffin recipes will be added soon.
