Mystery Gift

Everybody likes to receive gifts! The Mystery Gift feature has been around for a long time now; this is where players go to receive presents straight from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company.

The Process

How you get a gift shouldn’t be a mystery…

Mystery Gift can be accessed from the main menu (by pressing the X Button while on the field), after you’ve explored the Slumbering Weald for the first time. Upon pressing the “Mystery Gift” button, the following options will be available:

  1. Get a Mystery Gift: Choose this to receive a gift. This is what we’re here for!

  2. Get the Wild Area News: Connect to the Internet to update the distribution of Pokémon within all of the Pokémon Dens.

  3. Take a Stroll with the Poké Ball Plus: What it says on the tin. See our next page for details.

On this occasion, we’ll pick the first option. Doing so will cause more options to appear:

  1. Get via Local Communication: If a gift is being distributed in person (such as during a local Pokémon tournament or event), you want to select this.

  2. Get via the Internet: This will make your game connect to the Internet to search for a gift. Unlike trading or battling, a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is not required.

  3. Get with Code/Password: You’ll connect to the Internet, then you must input a code/password to receive a gift. The code could be unique and one-time use or it may be a common one that you can use across multiple save files.

  4. Get Battle Stadium Rewards: If you participated in the Battle Stadium and it’s time to receive your goods, select this. Otherwise, it’ll be greyed out.

  5. Check Mystery Gifts: This will bring up a history of all the gifts you’ve obtained, from newest to oldest.

In Sword and Shield, you explore the Galar region, based on the United Kingdom, alongside rivals Hop, Bede and Marnie, with the aim to dethrone the Pokémon League Champion.

They also reintroduce features previously seen in Sun and Moon and Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!, such as regional variants and roaming Pokémon depicted in the overworld.
